For the past few months, my VS speedster developed a bit of a rattle coming from the front. I have slid under the car on multiple occasions checking various components, trying to replicate the rattle. The other day I was spray detailing the front of the Speedster after a ride. My hand slipped and hit the bumper. And in that instant, I heard the rattle. I slid under and checked the bolts holding the bumper. They were tight. Hmmmm. Then I realized the bumper worked itself all the way down in the slot of the fiberglass body. The rattle was the bumper support hitting the rubber grommet surrounding the slot. I slide under the car, loosened up the bolts, raised the bumper, tightened a bit to verify straightness then cranked it in tightly. After a test ride this evening, no more rattle. I love it when it’s a simple fix.
I’m sure a number of you will get a chuckle at this, given the simplistic nature of the fix, but it was quite satisfying to finally figure out an annoying rattle that has definitely irritated me on drives.
The next fix will be to get the weatherstripping at the doors, to eliminate the driver door rattle. Hopefully soon. (I did try the electrical tape fix, and while it cured the rattle at the passenger door, it did not prevent the rattle in the driver side door).
