To follow Robert M's post about his engine missing problem I thought describing mine would also be helpful. My car has been stumbling or hesitating between 2-3000 rpm. It started after I replaced leaking top plate gaskets on both carburetors. While I had the top plates off I cleaned the idle circuits out even though the car had been running good. I also checked the float levels which were set what I thought were too close (around 5-7mm) in the upper closed position. I drove it for a month with the new problem. Turns out the floats were adjusted correctly before I messed with them. I was setting them 10mm from the bottom of top plate with the needle valve ball being all the way depressed instead of when the float tab was just touching the ball. That meant I had set them at 13-14mm or so from the top plate. Car is back to normal with no more stumbling after correcting the float level. Danny P emphasizes that upper float setting has to be 10mm in his weber tuning tech help document and  man is he right. That small difference in adjustment caused the engine to run badly enough to where I didn't enjoy driving it and was taking the Explorer instead. Life is fun again.

Cool Seth, I'm glad my carb write-up is helping people.

Hint: When setting the float levels, turn the carb tops on their side so the float hinges sideways like a door. This way, the float hinge pin is vertical, so when the float arm touches the ball, it won't have any weight on it and won't MOVE the ball.

This makes it much easier to achieve the 10mm(with gasket) making the total float height about 11mm from the carb top.
