I really enjoy reading posts about how my knucklehead SOC friends enjoy cruising their cars and sharing pics of those adventures. Also had a great weekend cruising around SoCal.

Saturday morning met up with SOCers Blake Leong and Markos Hjelm at an OCTO event (Orange CountyTransporter Organization). This is a huge gathering (show & swap meet) of pre-67 VW transporters of all types.

Afterwards I went for my routine cruise down the coast...Screen Shot 2019-07-01 at 1.46.42 PM...to San Clemente for some lunch on the pier.20171111_105653_HDR

Early Sunday morning met up with a friend to take his AMG GTR to a Cars & Coffee on Huntington State Beach. That car is insanely fast!994150082IMG_20191020_092130

Ended Sunday by parking at a spot overlooking Newport Harbor to catch the sunset.20181102_175545_HDR

When I go to the VolksFaire in August and the New England Microbus club shows up, they maybe get 30 to show up and everyone thinks that's a lot.  I looked at the photo of the parking lot and couldn't believe it. - - - - WOW!

It's OK, Marty.  Just pulling your leg (but it's fun to see the reactions).

It's actually pretty cool getting up to 70 and beyond.  I had times in my life when I truly believed that I wouldn't make it to 30, then 40, really almost didn't make it to 50 and then said screw it and finally decided to do what I wanted, rather than everyone else's idea of what I wanted.  Been having fun ever since and really would not have changed anything.

Well, college recruiting at the Engineering School of the Univ. of Wisconsin at Madison in February with a wind chill of 40º-below I might have skipped, but not the Eng. School at the Univ. of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez when February was a nice 76º but rainy (it was warm rain and the hotel had free Mojitos at happy hour).

Some friends of mine had a 944 in the mid 80's.  We are up in Wyoming and when ever the thing would break down, it was a flatbed ride 6 hours to Denver, CO, and an expensive repair bill.  They had the car only a couple years, after about three trips, they had had enough and replaced it with an IROC Z28.  They thought it equalled the 944 in driving enjoyment.

IROCZ's are a lot of fun, but would not be my first choice on a back road rally.  It's too bad Porsche sticks it up your koolie every time something breaks or the car needs service.

All those transporters.........all that money sitting there. They have just gotten insanely priced. Even the Brazilian ones.

Bob, it's not just the rusting 356 carcasses that get crazy money, these buses are also going for insane prices.   @Panhandle Bob20161022_085531_HDR_resized

If I had the disposable cash to buy this '60 combi, I'd rather buy Bonzai Pipeline's beautiful IM-6!
