Denton,
I sent you contact info for a customer of ours in your area, let me know if you got it. If not, I can pass it along again.
You can also look under the makers tab, and sort by name to see all of the Beck owners registered on this site. I have met with all of them at one point in time, and they are all great people who I'm sure would be willing to help you out. Except, Ray... meaning that I have never met him, NOT that he isn't "good people". LOL

Jim; I have really enjoyed the people I have met thruogh this site, and we all share the experiences of owning a fun car. I hope to meet more both on the road and at the speedster get togethers. The best thing is driving these to and from meetings, lunches and even in a group. My speedster has really got my old juices flowing again. The difference in everybodys input, style, and just having fun. When I retired I was tired ,not just tired, but bone tired. Buying this speedster has given me a new lease on life. I would recomend this to anyone. I am really looking forward to Knotts. I hope I can meet all the great people that post on the SOC site. The little bit I contribute to this site is no where near the enjoyment I receave. Looking forward to meeting you and seeing your new ride at Knotts.
Ray, That post speaks to me. It will be a pleasure to check out your great looking ride and shake hands at Knotts 2005.

My IM will be a mid level build, Henry is very good at working within a $$ limit. I am enjoying this experience... it's really a whole different thing.. almost like going to Boyd C and saying I want a 29 Roadster and he looks at you and says, ok, where do we start? Highboy - Lowboy, shaved, retro, classic, Salt Flat, Hemi? BBC? Mouse? Carbs, FI or What engine builder? Color, flames... ghost or multi, what colors? tranny, rear end, how do you want that set up?, interior, yada, yada. Then you say I want to do it for this amount... and then you start deciding what is really important to have on the car.

And then you get home and sit down and start taking that vision and translating that into a statement unseen, because it's a build list. But it is fun.

Anyway, it will be good to meet you, I've admired your pic file.

Jim; Man this is strange, before considering my Beck, I was seriously thinking of building a 29 Brookfield roadster pickup. After compiling my build list. Custom frame body .fenders, the shorter bed, hidden latches , rolled pan, etc, I was into it for over 22,000 . I still had to paint, ulpholstery. power train. and of course assy. I told my self the turnkey Beck Starter was cheaper. So ,since I live in a neighborhood that has a lot of ccr's, (restrictions you wouldn't believe), this was the only way to go. I'm so glad I went this route, besides I can drive it while adding neat things on it. I am in the process of buying more parts to dress up my engine. Carbon fiber fan shroud. Turbin fan, altenator. I haven't decided yet on what kind of electrict fuel pump I want to go with, an oil breather sytem, and the like. But hey, that's what so fun about this site and getting to see what other owners are doing with their cars. Take for example mr. Scott Sloan's outlaw IM, man, that is a speedster . I got to see it up close and personal at the SOT back in oct. I leaning on the outlaw look , it takes me back to sixties in southern Cal. when I stationed in Long Beach. I had a blue 57 bug conv. with a 356 motor, chevy corveir thirteen inch wheels gooodyears. I guess you could call it an early cal look. I just remember how fast it was and blowwing the Porche guys mind drive the PCH.
I bought my Beck off Carey and his dad,Kevin delivered it to me. I knew of Kevin from the time of the Blue Ray super 90s and Evemos. Not only did he deliver it (it was on his way to Ohio),but he stayed an extra 2 hours to help install the windshield and go over the details of the build up. At Carlies this year,Carey used my car for test drives for potential customers, and another icon (Henry Risner) asked if he could sit in my speedster. What a rush!!! I did make some personal changes such as lowering the top height, using 185x65x15 tires, replacing the rear window and installing a Vintage Speedsters luggage rack.I have sold the car,but Im now negotiating for my next speedster from Carey.
Although I have yet to acquire a speedster, I am leaning towards a beck; here are the reasons:

1.) A comparrison of techinical data between the original 356A and the beck are so close as to be nonexixtant.

2.) The most knowledgable person I have spoken with (three times now) of all speedster replica makers out there is Luke Richards of Boulder Speedsters (the West Coast distributer for the Beck... He knows everything and is willing to share! I have had conversations with other Beck dealers (not Kevin or his crew) as well as vintage and a couple of others and no one can begin to be as helpful.

3.) Aside from the tubular chassis, a good thing if you ask me (compared to a VW pan), everything else can be made to be so close to the origial that it is impossible to tell the difference.

This forum thread aludes to some problems with the Beck. I'd love to know what they might be before I lay my check down. Can anyone advise me please.
Klee,

I'm confused by your points 1 and 3. (I have no experience with the dealer you mention, so cannot comment on point 2).

What technical data are you comparing that are so close as to be non-existent?

What do you mean "aside from to the tube frame"? What other features does the Beck have that the other builder don't?

Jim.
