Heya all,

As it seems that Raby and Company are out on hiatus over the holiday, I figure I'll ask here. Is anyone running a Jake Raby 2270 type IV motor with the new LN nickasil jugs in a Speedster/Roadster?

Reason I ask is because this is ulitmately the plant I want to go with and if it won't work to begin with then I'll go with a type I I reckon. Forgive me if this belongs in a specialized forum, my apologies.

Thanks,

Charlie

Hullo Barry!

Hiya Ron!

On his website, he advises against using heater boxes for the IV, which would lead to a problem here in Minneapolis, so I think I know where you are coming from. Raby would indeed be the one to rap with for sure on yay or nay of the heater.

HOWEVER... Hope is out there Ron, say a few days back, a few people posted about a redundant outer sleeve that is attached to a straight 12' or 18' section of header pipe. It's like an outer wrap that uses latent heat from the pipe, traps and funnels it to where you need it. If I am not mistaken, it is used on aircraft to heat them. Sorry I don't have a link, but if you run through the forums, I am sure you'll find it.

Thanks for the input guys,

Charlie
There are some engines larger than 2270 with our Nickies cylinders out there, but to this day, there aren't any of Jake's 2270s equipped with Nickies, but who is to say it can't be done :-)

As far as heater boxes, they'll most definately hurt performance, but i'm leaving them on my 2320 (102 x 71), since i'll be needing some sort of heat to suppliment my gas heater.

Hey Barry, nice to see you got everything straightened out with Jake and John on your recent acquisition.

Take care,

Charles Navarro
I have not used any small bore Nickies yet, as the smaller bore cast iron cylinders seal and cool efficiently enough without them. Nickies are great, but if you are spending the bucks go to a 2563 or larger engine, it'll still live and run cool.

I have several 2270 engines in Speedsters, many of the owners lurk here and post sometimes.

As for the heaterboxes, it can be done, but fitting and loxcating the parts under the car is an issue. In a speedster I have yet to see one that seals up good enough to even have a heater except an IM replica, which is better than the real thing.

email me for a list of owners, or see "Our customer say" on my site for a few testimonials.
