Friday 4/12/19 Beck Speedster Sale!
Replies sorted oldest to newest
I was just posting this when I saw you had already posted it.
The Beck was a decent/good buy at 35K (+ fees?)
The Beck was the one that brought $35,000. The Vintage brought $41,800 plus fees.

The $35K was without fees. I think they tack on 10% which makes it $38,500. Still not bad for a brand new Beck.
@chines1 Any info on the Beck that rolled across BJ Palm Beach this week?
I thought it was brand new but Troy thought it was an older build.

Do you mean $41,800 with fees. The sold price was $38,000 for the Vintage.
Kirk stopped using the smaller door pockets several years ago and went to the long door pockets. That was the only reason I thought it was an older build.
I watched the Blue Beck action but didn't record it. I would have sworn the guy said built on a VW chassis. I don't believe that Beck has done that for some time now.

I misread the post then Troy. I thought you mentioned the Beck was an older build.
Nope...Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach 2019 Lot #368.1 1958 Porsche Speedster Re-creation sold for $41,800.00 + 10% Fee equals Total @ $45,980. This car was described as a Vintage built re-creation and titled as a 1968 VW.
Maybe we are talking about two different cars. Did you watch the video I posted in this thread?
I going by what I printed out off of Barrett-Jackson.com. I'm reading it and it shows Lot #368.1 a 1958 Vintage Porsche Speedster re-creation with less than 2,350 original miles and finished in Brilliant Creme Brule with correct-style Cocoa interior, etc., etc., etc., TITLED AS A 1968 VOLK. The Status is "Sold" and the Price reads "$41,800.00."
Becks were never on VW chassis and the interior details look like a recent build anyway. I was surprised to hear the narrator say what he did and also surprised to see it go for below retail. The buyer did well for himself.
Don't be too surprised....I heard the narrator "talking through his hat" several times in the couple hours I watched the auction.

Then the video scoreboard was incorrect.
This sounds like a rendition of "Who's on First?".

BJ Details page says it is titled as a 1970 Volkswagen. I didn't think any Beck's were titled as a Volkswagen.

At least the announcers had some information this time. With the others I have watched, they go silent for a while when replica Speedsters hit the block. They can give you a fun fact about how a radio knob on a Mustang is smaller by 1/72 of inch on the left as opposed to the right but have no information other than replica Speedster for these.
I also get a little miffed that the fiberglass 55 Chevy bodies they slap on a modern chassis are called a 55 Chevy, not replicas. I know our cars are.....I would just expect those are too.

I always thought that those guys knew what they were talking about. I guess I will now be skeptical, the same as when most 'experts' weigh in.
The announcers are very well versed on most vehicles, it amazes me what they do now and point out. I can understand the lack of detailed information on replicas as there are many variables.
They have cheat sheets on a lot of that stuff, but yeah they seem to know their stuff about American production cars. I think they get some info through headsets from their production/research folks.

"Brilliant Creme Brule"=oxymoron.
