Just an update on the work I did to Goofycat's car (Barry Schmidt) After Paso Robles, Barry, accompanied by his wife, with Karl Dempwolf leading the way, arrived at my home in Ontario. Barry and his wife then flew home to Santa Rosa.

I removed the rear 4 bolt drums and installed 5 bolt drums. I then removed the front spindles and replaced them with 5 bolt disc brakes using a complete spindle set up. (5) New powder coated 5 bolt wheels, drum skins, an electric fuel pump, fuel pump block off plate, an aftermarket sump plate with a drain plug, fresh oil, new speedo cable, front end alignment, set the timing and played around for hours on his carb's finally getting them jetted and adjusted properly.

Barry wanted a Brandwood shifter so out came the stock Beck shifter and I welded up some brackets to hold the shifter box to the floor of the car in the same location as the stock shifter.

I then converted the Beck cable clutch system to fully hydraulic, adding a CNC master cylinder, CNC slave and a slave saver. Although SpyderMike had some detailed photo's of his conversion on SpyderOwners, this proved to be a real challenge.

I had to fabricate a longer "ball and socket" rod end to attach to the stock VW clutch pedal and the master cylinder push rod.

There isn't much "travel" in the pedal where the rod end was secured to the pedal arm so I had to cut apart 1 rod end and weld the threaded portion to the rod end I eventually used. By doing this, it added approximately 1 inch more travel to the master cylinders push rod thus allowing the clutch to release.

Everything came out great and yesterday morning, (Friday) Barry flew down from Santa Rosa and drove his car home (7 hours of driving). I spoke to him last evening and he made it home in great time with the car running perfectly.
