I am new to this, and I would like to know if there is anything coming up in the way of a run, road trip,or a get together for speedsters. I would like to hear from other beck owners about their roadsters. My speedster was purchased in December of 2003, I took delivery in San Diego, and hit the road to Arizona. Being a typical southern california day. I topped the tank and headed for breakin run to my brothers place in Clarksdale Arizona a nice trip, cold at night going through the hills covered in snow with the top down. I stopped for gas somewhere on highway 17 north and picked up some cotton work gloves to keep my hands warm. I reocmend nice warm gloves for top down winter driving. I hate to put the top up. Looking forward to hearing from other speedster owners.

Ray, my car was assembles by Chuck back in 93. It's not a speedster, it's a Cabriolet Super 90. I'm kind of in the same boat but on the east coast here in Maryland. I've got the same question about stuff out here. Am I the only one in Maryland? Does anyone know if there is anything goind on out here?
Check out the "Events" section of this web site for any events going on in your areas. There isn't a lot going on right now on the East Coast (although Watkins Glenn looks interesting), and a few coming up in Northern Cal and Oregon later on.

The BIG ones are Knott's Farm next April and Carlisle, PA next May - both REALLY big Speedster events.

If you want to know of other Speedsters in your area, the registry shows cars sorted by mail codes (Zip in USA, Postal code in Canada) Pretty handy for finding other owners nearby.

By the way, Carey Hines (one of the folks at Beck) posts on here about weekly and was at BOTH Knotts and Carlisle with a number of cars, including his Brazillian-registered Speedster (the factory mule, I guess). Nice car, and really nice person.
Gordon I was just scanning thru the Washington DC regional members looking for someone close. There are actually a few w/in 30 miles or so. I'll drop them a line in a week or so when I get mine running a bit better. I will be dropping her off at my local VW guru Monday, Peek Performance. I just picked up the car and she's got a strong engine (about 175 HP or so as I'm told from Pat at CB Preformance who supplied the engine.) She's just not running too smoothly right now. I also noticed that people were able to attach pictures of their rides. There are some truely beautiful examples out there. I think George's silver one (Soloman's Island, MD) impressed me the most, thus far. I thought mine was pretty sweet. His is really hooked up.
I have had the opportunity to email back and forth with Carey Hines. His family were the suppliers of my car, (built in 93) He seems down to earth and willing to help me in my new venture. He warned me that parts may take a while. So I'm learning patience.
I'm really looking forward to meeting some good people. Thank you for your advice.
Mitch

Hey,
I envy you guys who are setting up meets and runs in cold weather climes. I just got bad news from my mechanic about BAD lifters and a piston not firing. All this on a "new" engine with less than 5000 miles on a 2001 Vintage. If anyone is interested in a low miles highly-optioned out Vintage Speedster, I'm all ears and fairly in debt. I'm looking for $15,000, as a new one would set you back close to $23,000 or more (I've lost track). If you're chums with a VW mechanic this could really be a bargain.

I feel for you. Just went through the same problem this past spring with my 2110. Bad lifters and cam. On the recommendation of Colton Perry and other SOC members I had Kurt Metzger at Vintage Performance in Clayton, DE do the rebuild. He did a great job. You should save your coin and give him a call before you sell your car.

Mitchell,

I live in Phoenix, Maryland and try to get a group of Speedsters together a couple of times a year. Last fall was in Mt Airy and we're debating where to meet this fall. The big east coast meet is at Carlisle, PA in May, we don't have the dates yet but that will be a "don't miss" meet. Check out speedsterseast.home.att.net for photos, etc from earlier this year. Watch here on SO.com for updates.
Bruce, thanks for the new site. I needed an early morning fix before work, so I checked out the forum. I've got to say, I like the your originality. The leather straps, the #, the headlight guards, and the gas cap were great details. They really set your car off from the rest. I'm looking forward getting out there and enjoying the ride with others.
I'm becoming a fan of the flair. I was scanning thru last night and saw the " Copper-Orange" flair w/ the vent scoop before the rear tire, and the third brake light. I can't remember who's that was, but it was another new twist. Up until recently, I was really into the classic look, but this site has really opened my eyes.
Again Bruce, nice ride. I'm looking forward to seeing it and meeting you in person.

Bruce, Karl, she's running. I've taken her for a couple Sunday drives and she's doing pretty well. I'm expecting to get some oil gaskets from CB Perf. for the sump this week. I'll get the oil changed as soon as they come in. If the weather's nice this weekend, I wouldn't mind taking a drive or stopping by. This weekend or next, who's ever up for it... DC beltway or Baltimore beltway same - same. Have replicar will travel.
