Went to a Car Show in Pine Valley last weekend. Beautiful little town in what the locals euphemistically call "mountains" east of San Diego. They closed off main street - maybe 1/2 mile long. For a detour, they routed you back to the freeway - because there wasn't any other route thru town! One window van and me held up the flat four honor among 200 hot rods.

Coming home I'm cruising on the freeway - which is quite scenic out that way. Speedy seems really light on her feet. Just floating along. Engine noise is remarkably low. Cylinder head temp gauge is cool compared to trip out that morning. No throttle effort at all to float along at 120 KPH (metric gauges) ~75 MPH. Just enjoying the hell out of the whole thing. It was like one of those surreal things that asks the question - what's wrong with this picture?

Then it hit me. Pine Valley is above 4000 feet. I was headed for a spot 40 miles distant that is maybe 10 feet above sea level. The freeway is a nice even gradient all the way. DUH!
