buying a 550

Hello I am new to the board.I am looking to purchase a 550 spyder but I don't know where to begin.Seems like a lot of options.Any help would be appreciated.

Jess......Right now, the best bet may be a used vehicle......Not meaning to detract from the Fabricators, but the economy is forcing people to part with their toys.....

If you are a realy good wrench bender, with time to spare, the Spyder is a great first time kit car....Loads of accessability, and a straight forward design.....

Try to locate an air cooled specialist close to you...just in case you have a realy peculiar problem....(Best done befor purchase)

You can find show and/or GO cars up for grabs,......Just be willing to accept the normal wear and tear on the paint and upholstery, etc.

Hope this helps, and if you know exactly what you want, compare new and used vehicle prices.....New isn't always pricier.....

i drove a 550 spyder with a 2165 cc motor a while back. still grinnin. you can see the car on line at specialtysales.com under former or sold inventory.

i visited thunder ranch in southern california. tom gave me a great education and a terrific factory tour. robin is top notch, and the crew are lovers of all things vw - but maybe not of vw things..

i have met a few fine folks from this forum and received fantastic free advice here - often.

i'm heading to indiana and possibly georgia in march to further my 550 spyder education.

my advice:
drive, research, visit, research some more, save, prepare, and listen.
