Some time ago, I got two names: the German Car clinic and Bugg Doctor. Don't know how to get ahold of the Bugg Doctor or know where they're located. Would also love to get other shops in the SF/Bay Area. All I need is someone to do basic tuneup stuff. Nothing fancy, preferably not too expensive.

Thanks,
David

David:

If you're determined to let someone else pamper your baby until you learn how to do the work yourself and/or get confident, then try this:

Drive around the Bay area looking for garages with a Lot of VW's sitting around either fixed or waiting for service. That might be a pretty good place to start, or:

Check the yellow pages for "auto parts, Foreign and Imported" and see what's listed. Find an import auto parts place (preferably European parts) in your area, and drive on over there (this always works better than a phone call), walk in and watch to see which of the counter people seem to be the most knowlegeable. Approach THAT person and ask him/her if there is a realy good, air-cooled VW mechanic in the area that they would trust with their car (if it were air cooled) and visit whomever they recommend. This has always worked for me, where-ever I've tried it.

Good luck.......

Yeah... I'm taking an auto shop class next fall. Plan to get back into working on my own car. In the meantime, I'd rather have a paid professional do the work.

As for "looking around" for a repair shop. I'd rather have a recommended shop someone else has used, rather than stumble upon a HOPEFULLY good and honest mechanic. I've had my overwhelming share of BAD mechanics.

Thanks for the advice.

David
I have taken my car to Fremont Auto and was very happy with the price and service.

I need to have a couple if items dealt with that are not engine related and plan to take it into the guys at Specialty Service. I have seen their shop and have spoken with them. They run a clean shop and are very knowledgeable about our cars. I will post an evaluation after I have talked with them and the work is completed
