I feel like there are some missing pointers here so I will add.

1. Learn how to put on and take off a cover. What you don't want to do is slide the cover all over the finish while doing either. You will scratch the paint. Which leads me to #2

2. Do not put a cover on a dirty car. When the car is covered dirty and the cover shifts over the paint, it will scratch the paint. Use a waterless wash with good microfiber towels or wash the car. Even short trips in a clean car will pick up something on the car.

3. Don't let the cover, especially the part that touches the car, hit the ground or put down on a dirty surface. Again, it will scratch your car.

You didn't mention the wife running into the NEW cover with the mower. Or the new cover after the crazy wind we've in the NE lately. Speedster is in the garage with my wife's Mini but the 914 is out in the drive (with what was a beautiful new cover) getting slapped around like the red-headed step child.

I wish I had looked at covers more from the standpoint of warm garage vs. New England winters. Wife with mower will take some more calculation.

The wife's VW Thing is currently in the driveway with a cover and I don't have the space or setup to do anything other than that outside. Two quotes for a garage addition and required retaining wall/driveway to get to it of over $60K and I decided to go with a lift.

The correct garage door opener (high lift) is done. Shed is in the works to get the crap out of the garage and a lift should be in before winter.
