Carburator ID

Post a photo of Carbs.  No casting marks or id tab on one of the float screws?

All I can suggest is to check with CB Perf. and maybe someone familiar with Empi's products.

Post good photos it will help to ID

Nothing!  Even after pulling everything apart, I couldn't find anything.  As it turned out, the only part that worked from my kit was the throttle shaft seals so I replaced those and now they're not leaking, but it would've been nice to rebuild the entire carbs with new parts.

Those are some odd carbs. Never seen a set like that.

They're so cute!

They look vaguely like Webers, but are they maybe Baby Dells? I've never seen a 6 bolt accelerator pump diaphragm on a Weber.

 

Looks a lot like this one, on the Summit Racing site, advertised as, believe it or don't, a modern replacement for an early Jeep Solex carb. Can't imagine why no one recognized it.

Good find - even EMPI and CHINA mark their products so strange nothing on this one.  Omix-ADA?

those are brosol-solex, vintage used those for a while they are 28mm venturi, are made some larger venuri for mine but due to the body size i could only go to 29 mm, they work good for low end torque but fall off around 4500rpm. i think you can buy parts from kaddie shack. watch you fuel pressure, they only recomend 1 1/2 lbs.  bill

 

Very interesting. They didn't look remotely familiar to me, and I put a pair of Solex 35s on a sandrail 1835 and got them jetted nicely, thanks to John Connelly supplying parts and knowledge!

Definitely NO MORE THAN 1.5 psi. I ended up with 6 or 7 fuel pump base gaskets to bring the pressure down on that rail.

You guys are better than Google without a doubt!  I couldn't find anything using the markings I had.  The pressure is probably the issue then.  This motor definitely has the best low end torque I've had on a VW motor so that makes perfect sense.

put in a electric pump and regulator, also put a seperate switch for the pump, then you can turn the pump off, when hot to let the pressure drop before shutting down. bill

Great detective work, Mitch and Ted. I had no idea what 356 (or old Jeep) single barrel Solexes looked like. 

Using the info you guys provided, it appears these are Solex 32PICB carbs.  They have multiple applications, including Porsche in the 1950's, along with Mercedes, Austin Healy and numerous others.  Each seems to have a slightly different configuration.

I found a 356 Carburetor Restoration company that only wants $1,200/ pr to restore to factory specs.  What a deal.  If I go to eBay, I can find rebuild kits from $22-$85 depending on what parts I want to repair or replace.

Thanks again for the help and direction.  Maybe when I see Kirk (VS) in June at the West Coast Cruise, I'll ask him for verification.

$1200 a pair! Wow I should go into the carb rebuild business.......
