Mark your calendar and start making plans now for Carlisle 2020.  I've just signed a Speedster Owners room contract,  this wlll be our second year staying at Courtyard by Marriot in Shippensburg PA.  The Thursday night BBQ Buffet was enjoyed by everyone,  so we'll be doing this again.  I'll be posting the hotel room reservation information soon with more info to come from both Ed and myself  ~

Thanks for confirming the dates for Carlisle in 2020, Alan.  Gonna be a tough assignment to match the great time we had for Carlisle 2019 but I have no doubt that it will be sensational.

Carlisle has been a major highlight of my year for 13 years now.  After  thirteen 2,500 mile round trips from Hot Springs for 2020, Alice and I will fly to Harrisburg and rent a car to participate next year.  I have always said that it's really about the great folks we visit with there annually and that part will continue for 2020.  The iron butt has worn plumb out after over 56,000 miles in the Speedster, and at age 81 at the 2020 Carlisle event who can blame me?  Can't wait to see everyone there!

Wow @Lane Anderson. You must be getting younger. You used to be "dad."

Or you're not looking so good, perhaps?

Always a good job guys. Ya'll learned well from the hard working Bruce.

I have tried multiple times to call the number Alan posted above and keep getting voice mail for someone called Bill Walsh.  Is that really the number to reach Charity?

It seems like this thread might be better located under the Events section.

I got that too, Michael but left voice mail of my intentions and next time I checked my email I found I was automatically booked for those three nights on the cc I used last year. Decent automation for sure but when I checked the reservation confirmation there is a feature where I was able to modify it to include the Wednesday night also but at a much higher rate so I declined and will call and confirm next week to see if the SOC rate will indeed be applicable to Wednesday night too.  I had a  phone call with Walsh he was also not able to confirm a ground floor room for us.

I hear we're going to watch Alan Merklin try to grab a greased pig Wednesday night. Then we're gonna have a square dance, called by Lane Anderson "Annoying Radio Guy". Maybe a card trick or three from Ed Ericcson. Jack and Maddie are going to do the dueling banjo routine.

Max is going to do a live reading of all three books, Cory/Jeni are going to disassemble then re-assemble their entire car. Chris is going to vape his face off. Karen will sip something good. Chuck will consume an entire bottle of whiskey and repeat himself. The Stroud's will discuss their latest touring/trailering adventures. Frazoo is going to shoot off rockets. Mossberg is gonna talk about the latest 718 Boxster automatic accessories. The Finch will share the latest on goat-raising in America. Hoss will most definitely wear his big hat.

Lenny, Ron, Michelle and Carey will hang back quietly and possibly smoke cigars.

Stan and Al will give a rousing discussion on gear and compression ratios, and their effect on significant others and relationships.

I will just "SHUT UP" LOL.

It'll be a real HOOT!

Canadian is such a wonderful language. I don't speak it but it sounds magical

It's basically English, with an influence of Scottish, Irish, and French, and a touch of American.  At least, in most of the country.

In Quebec, and other regions, it's French, with an influence of Scottish, Irish, and English, and a touch of American.

Tell 'm about Newfoundland then....

Is Newfoundland like Cape Breton?
When we were on Cape Breton it took us a while to figure out that they were actually speaking English, heavily influenced by Scottish, Irish and French.

I think, though, that the locals made up a lot of words (or went to Gaelic) just to confuse us tourists.

I gotta say, though, the local Celtic music on Cape Breton is outstanding.

Newfoundlanders speak English, but with a number of different dialects, depending on where they come from in the province.  There are 'townies', who you can pretty well understand, and 'bay boys' (pronounced bay bys) who you might not be able to understand.  We lived and worked there for two years, and my wife (who taught nursing at the university), developed the ability to discern what outport or bay her students came from.  Most of my students were townies, so I never had the pleasure.

We never had any difficulty understanding them or being understood, and it was a great two years.  They do have a few unique expressions, though.  But that's another story...

What?  You mean everybody else isn't driving with their high beams on?

Showfield tent, tables and folding chairs are ordered.

Aside from the many entertaining activities on the showfield itself—which include auto-crossing and a "low car limbo" which Spyders tend to win when entered—I will be supplying two self-guided twisty-road/scenic overlook/winery/covered bridge/pub/lunch tours for our members to drive solo or in groups at their own leisure.

Both are about 100 miles and will take 2-3 hours of drive time on nice roads.

I tell my kids all I need is an extension cord and a garden hose, and I'm set for a couple of weeks at least.

Well, hey, it smells so nice nobody would even know if we crapped right there in the grass on the edge of the parking lot! I'm in.

That's a good idea, Ed.  Those who want to sit and drink beer can do so, and those who want to have an interesting run and drink wine can do so.

Good thinking to all the organizers.

Relax dude. Al's not trying to offend you or Michelle. He's just laying some humor down. If you read Stan's post he's talking about trailer guys sleeping in the tow vehicles bumming showers and you're talking about crapping on the edge of the grass area so Al is just jokingly asking if you had told your wife about the camping plans.

The second time Chris and I worked at the Rolex race, I was determined to get at least some sleep in the middle of the night.  So, I bought a big air mattress that would fit between the rear wheel wells in my pickup, and a 12volt air pump to pump it up.  The truck already had a cap, so I also got a sleeping bag with the thought that we could drive under the grandstand and park and either of us could scoot down there from the grandstand roof and get a few winks on our off-shift in the middle of the night.

It was a great idea, except for one thing:  There is so much noise coming from the cars racing down the front stretch at 180+mph and then braking for the turn into the infield that you really can't sleep.  I tossed and turned for over an hour and finally gave up and went back to the roof, but along the way I stopped at the grandstand kitchen on level two and talked them into nuking a couple bowls of chicken noodle soup I brought to take up to the roof.  The head chef was hesitant until he asked which car we were spotting for and when I told him he looked at the race monitor and found we were currently in first place in GT (we ultimately came in second).  Once he saw that he nuked the soup and also gave us a hefty supply of Naan bread to go along with it!

Don't worry, Robert, I'm just givin' it to him, and he knows it. The little smiley face- I'm just being a smart a** and again, he knows it. He'll shoulder punch me at Carlisle, I'll hit him back, we'll laugh and then open beers.. (and if I play my cards right I'll be drinking his beer!)

Buckzeski is a cool guy. I gave him a soft blast back in 2011for not having a long distance award for those driving to Carlisle. He recognized the error of his ways and sent us a nice " Longest Driven " plaque and a coplimentry IPad. I didn't need the IPad and gave it away. Two weeks later he sent a second one.
