............I'm going !
See ya there, Doc.
Let's hope we can all go this time.
Cool. I'd really like to see more modern Beck creations. A new speedy would be awesome.
Registration is already open!? That's unusual. I plan to see y'all there, but I think I'll wait a bit to register.

Our Czar may or may not allow us to cross the border by car, we will see if the election changes anything. Here's hoping.
We'll be there too.
Us too, Bruce.
Make that us too.
We’ll be coming if the China virus madness is over. Mandatory masking and vaccine passports, no bueno.

Maybe this year...
I certainly hope so, Bob. It's been way too long since any of us have seen you and Mary.
@DannyP posted:I certainly hope so, Bob. It's been way too long since any of us have seen you and Mary.
You're right, Danny. 2022 it is.
I'll have to encourage more of the Canadian contingent to head south too.
We are all a bit cabin crazy up here and wrapped up in 49th parallel tape ...
As soon as the czar releases us we will be driving south
Hoping the border becomes less obnoxious as we have a family member who had a covid test that ended up being 3 hours late when he drove across and he got a 6K fine ... go figure..
Moral of the story, if you come back and they say the test is outdated, you have to tell them... ok then I am not coming back today... do not come into your own country, go back across the border to a hotel or to your relatives then come back another day... ( the relative lives in Windsor and he was visiting his sister in Detroit, he is in his late 70's )
Speaking of our friends from the "Great White North", has anyone heard from David Stroud or Francine?
I PM'd him sometime ago but he seems to be doing planes, Trains but not automobile at this time. Car 54 where are you ....@David Stroud IM Roadster D
Throwing this out there to the Speedster Group. As a former Speedster owner, now a buggy owner, ACME commissioned a build of a Valve Cover Racing Track. We will have the track at Carlisle this year and if you are creative enough to make a Valve Cover Racer and want to have some fun, the track will be set up for the duration. We will have a definitive challenge race (double elimination), but feel free to join - you gotta make your own racer. If anyone is interested, I can send you rules and build specifications for your racer (max 5 pounds)= just about anything goes. Pinewood Derby and Hot Wheels for the adults Andy Burger, afburger@gmail.com

I'm guessing my spare Miata DOHC valve cover won't qualify --- much less one from an old Jaguar 6 cylinder?
Thats a good one, a little wide for the track - The cheaper the better old VW or new bad EMPI valve covers will suffice . The square sided valve covers (older style) are easier to get your wheels straighter with. Going straight, if you can get down the track without hitting the sides and slowing down is half of the battle.

Looks like some fun. @PrickleyPete is that a curved transition from slope to the bottom of the track? Or is the transition abrupt?
Bruce Stumpp was trying to get this going a few years ago.
Why not post the rules in a separate thread for all to see?
Are they the same as this only with a 5 pound max weight instead of 10?
curved incline - VCR build rules also attached based on area we will have, we have 6 4' sections of flat after the curve from the starting incline. This image is general representation of an older track we used to borrow and use. The new track is being finished this month and may include a hump and/or a jump optional sections depending upon how much beer is consumed during the final track construction

If there is enough interest, I'll start a separate thread.
Thanks, Andy. That curved sweep at the bottom is great.
The rules posted will help a bunch.
I see a few racers use two valve covers sandwiched together. Is this a currently acceptable practice? I have a pair of SS Scat covers that I can use.
Anything you can to get weight and your own style going. The only real cosmetic restriction is height of front bumper to make sure the release is fair for both on the starting line.
I love this plan!
For those wondering what this track will look like with a transitions. Here is the current build process - about 80%. There is an additional 8' of sections to be added but the work shed isn't that long
The track is 4' high at the starting line with a 35% incline to an eased curved flat section. Total length is about 28'. This particular VCR racer in the video is at the 5 pound limit, made with a base EMPI chrome rounded valve cover. It also has wood wheels and router bearings that is homemade from my brother Bill in North Carolina - the architect and creator of our track.
Our plan is to have a "cup season" at various events with trophies at each event and grand champion - even best of show at events so everyone can enjoy. Click the video below to see the track in action as of 07-JAN-2022
This is awesome!
Carlisle ....Carlisle 2022 So who's all going so far ? Hotel & Show Field reservations are open !
Count me in. With my work schedule probably won't book hotel until we get closer and I can confirm exactly which days I'm there. Only 1hr 30min away so much easier than most of you. Can't wait to meet everyone!
Can I come with my Magnum GT and hang with you guys? If so, I will look into coming.

Alan. You know we will be there if possible. We've missed that last two gatherings...

I wish this weren't so, so I didn't LIKE it. We miss you Canadians!
Valve cover races. I think some of us (i.e. me) need to get cracking on our entrants.
Karyn and I are in, I just haven't booked anything. COVID years, like dog years.......... feels like we just left Carlisle '21 two months ago.
No question about our attendance though.
Thanks for the Carlisle responses, keep them coming!
A little nostalgia. Circa 2010 that's why the video quality is so poor. https://vimeo.com/12078348
I'll be there Thursday through Saturday, Spyder in tow. Got to be back to work on Monday. Hopefully we'll do some good drives like last year. I thought the vineyard and the gastropud were both big hits.

New thread: Valve Cover Racing At Carlisle.
Showfield registration done, hotel tomorrow. Thurs-Sun.
Anybody have a spare valve cover??
Reserved at the hotel. Boy, they aren't making that easy this year.
"How best can we not actually talk to you today? Would you like a text instead? The website is the best way to book your room, How about a twenty-seven minute wait?"
Apparently the automated system doesn't recognize, "GO EFF YOURSELF!!!!"
Plus, they let the guy who recently retired from two decades of huffing paint answer the phones!! YAY!
Booked for Weds-Sun
We're in. I no longer own a speedster, but we're going. Sea y'all there.
We're in Thursday to Sunday.
Chris: amen to that. had to laugh .. "the best way for us to help you fast is if you press 1 ..." Nothing fast about it. But, I did it, reservations secured.
Sorry it's a hassle, guys.
PS: I think they want you to go to the national website and make your reservation there. even if you dial and connect to the local Mechanicsburg hotel. Trouble is, I do not think doing that will get you into the Speedster group block and rate.
@edsnova posted:Sorry it's a hassle, guys.
Worth it. I just like to complain Ed. It is not to imply any lack of work on yours or Al's part.
@edsnova posted:Sorry it's a hassle, guys.
It's not Ed's or Al's fault that they went all corporate BS phone tree on us. It is what it is. It took me a while, but I'm retired, so it's fine.
In contrast, the Smo reservation took less than 5 minutes. Still another big corporate chain...just somebody answered and took the reservation quickly and efficiently.
Has anyone else besides Chris had a problem making a reservation on the phone directly to the hotel with the number I provided? If so I can fix it
yes, in terms of a REALLY long wait to reach a human. I called in the evening, so maybe they were short staffed. ?? Once connected, the reservation details were handled properly, I think. I did secure a confo number.
I just spoke with Charity Sheffler at Courtyard Marriott when you call they have a new phone system which quite hasn’t been straightened out yet select the option for the sales office if she does not pick up leave a message she will call you back and make the reservation direct sorry for the inconvenience until They get things ironed out with new phone system
I called the number you left and versus last year, where I believe I called Charity direct and left her a message to call back. She sent me an email that I was confirmed for my reservation so it was super easy.
I encourage anyone to follow Al's instructions and push the button for the sales office when you get to that point.
Thanks for trying to iron it out Al!!
Thank you, Alan!
Please folks, sign up for Carlisle Gate & Go ASAP. Deadline is end of March. As in the past, the more people we get who sign up as part of the Speedster gathering the more likely it is we'll get a free thing.
You want a NON-JUDGED SHOWFIELD Gate & Go pass; sign up here. Remember to go to the club affiliation drop-down menu and choose "Speedster Owners." Do this regardless of what car you plan to bring.
Every year I've been a part of this group we've gotten a free tent from Carlisle. This year, owing to last year's lower attendance, it costs $97.50
No problem! We got this. But free is better than $97, so if you're thinking of coming, sign up.
Here's the nitty gritty re the tent:
COST OF CLUB TENT
• Club tent qualifications are based on the following:
1) The total number of vehicles registered for the prior year’s event –
if your club had 25 or more vehicles registered last year, your club
is eligible for a FREE tent this year
2) The total number of vehicles registered by the Gate-N-Go deadline
of the current year’s event – if your club’s total number of vehicles
registered by the Gate-N-Go deadline is greater than the prior
year’s total and meets the number for the next larger tent size,
your club will receive the larger size FREE.
• Rental fee is $195.00 for a 20 ft. x 20 ft. club tent when your club’s
number of vehicle registrations is under 25.
SIZE OF CLUB TENT
• Club tent sizes are offered and determined by the number of vehicles
your club has pre-registered. FREE tents may be offered at the
following club vehicle registration levels:
25 vehicles = 20 ft. x 20 ft. / 50 vehicles = 20 ft. x 30 ft.
75 vehicles = 20 ft. x 40 ft. / 100 vehicles = 30 ft. x 40 ft.
I did my part -- hope we get a tent.
Valve cover racing a special longer and steeper valve cover racing wood track has been built by one of the Meyers Max dune buggy club numbers ….I will post pictures when I can

There will be no secret "practice runs" MMMMMkkkkk?
Tent and table and a few chairs are ordered. That's $124.50 this year but, sun or rain, the big canopy is worth it.
Thanks Ed. Cruise on Friday and Carlisle Show Field with Valve Cover Racing on Saturday !
Booked at the hotel for Wed-Sun. WOOHOO!!!
Thank you Lane, look forward to seeing you
So Ed, how much money do we actually have? Enough to buy a keg??
We have enough for a keg, but I will not be buying a keg with it.

I keep getting emails from Carlisle Events about "our" weekend. HURRY, if you buy your "Gate-and-Go" pass by March 29 you'll save 10%.
Which is, like, $4. I'll save the $4 by not going to Starbucks once, thank you(I NEVER go there).

Just 10?! C'mon folks, it's time to celebrate the backside of the pandemic and join us for jocularity, merriment, and frivolity. Oh, and cars, too. Almost forgot about the cars.
Alan/Lane. I'm working on getting a Canadian contingent to add to that total.
Yes, it's time to enjoy life a little more than over the past two years....

Carlisle: I know of at least 9 possibles that have verbally committed but are sitting on the fence, surely it can't be the cost of gas as that's easily remedied by switching to cheaper lunch choices............ Come on folks let's get it done this week !

.........GREAT NEWS BOB & THANKS !
Cory and Jeni will be there, and Paul Mossberg.
Bill Ascheman and Dale Schumacher assure me they're in.
I signed up today for the gate and go pass, I signed up as if I were driving my speedster if a drive my VW will that be any problem, can I take that car in. Looking forward to my first Carlisle car show.
Thanks,
Mike
No problem. I signed up for my Coupe once or twice and drove the BMW as the Coupe wasn't finished.
I've driven my Explorer on the show field twice. Ford imports parts from Mexico, so it counts
I drove my Ford F250 and trailer on the show field several years in a row. They really don't care all that much once you've paid for a show field pass.
BTW: Those show field passes are a real bear to remove (the adhesive is wicked sticky) so I would scotch tape mine to the windshield. I don't think they really like that, but no one ever told me to do otherwise.
