I pulled up behind a blue Z with two white stripes the other day. Had a personalized plate: Z VIPER.  When the light changed I found out why. I hope I see it at a C&C this summer. I’d love to see how he wedged a V10 in that engine bay.

In related news, the guy that welded my cookie cutter was building this:

So a large thanks to Dave Earl and the rest of his keen followers for thinking a thread drift from the hard working gents trying to pull off another Carlisle event would be a good idea ? Have you no respect for the work going on to pull the Carlisle event off ?

This car was built about 10 years ago in a tiny little farm town less than an hour from my front door - which I think is pretty fantastic.

The link is to an article with some build photos. It's a SEMA car, so not my bag of chips... but it's also a V10 Ghia, so how can anybody not love that?

I'd happily roll it.

LOL. I helped John build that. The glass came out of my 69 Ghia. Its an amazing ghia

Is there anybody that's assuming the sort of leader of the Carlisle contingent.  I just got my speedster in December and joined this group then.  It's too short a fuse for me to make the four- or five-day trip from Texas this year, but it might be good for next year. There has sure been a lot of activity regarding this trip.  If somebody would take the reins, it would make a great speedster owners annual rally!

It's more of a leadership team.  Ed Ericsson, Alan Merklin, and Bruce Stumpp have all given their time to put the event together this year, as they and others have over the last two decades.  It's a lot of work, especially since none of them live in the area and at least one of them is still working.  Despite that, it has been an annual thing since the first one in 2004.

As for a rally, in past years ad hoc groups have formed to have caravans to/from Carlisle when multiple attendees are in the same region and coming from the same direction.  We used to do one from the southeast, gathering folks from Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina, as well as any others who timed their personal vacations (e.g., David Stroud from Quebec) to join up with us.

It's my show this year.

Alan and Bruce are in the wings, helping out.

I'm very close to finalizing the itinerary. So far we have the Early Bird Bank Run on Thursday AM, with a lunch in town at Hinckles. Thursday dinner on the deck at Theo’s Bar & Grill.

Friday is a nice ride starting 9-ish and covering some ground to a historic house and arboretum, where we can stroll about for a minute and check out some cool trees. Then a winery and lunch (tbd, calls made, emails sent). Afternoon free for showfield, a visit to the dirt track or General Hooning as some of our contingent are hell-bent on doing.

Friday night is the Traditional Restaurant Scramble (AKA wheretheheelarewegoing?) Alan has suggested a takeover of the Pizza Grill but it'll be up to you-all. I'll update the local restaurant list and post it in the hospitality room later.

Saturday is open to your interpretation. I plan on going to Carlisle as I personally enjoy the field and the weirdness parked thereon. As usual there will be activities there, including the Carlisle tumbler quest, auto-cross, various burnout and "drifting" efforts, a fairly not-great band (no shade, just knowing from tradition), food available, ice cream, a charity raffle for a '65 Stingray, etc. Speedsters/Spyders/MGs will have a dedicated pop-up with a table and a few chairs. Bring a cooler and we'll make it a party.

Saturday at 6 the group has reservations at Snapper's. Everyone can order what they want off the limited menu.

Dessert will be served after that in the Hospitality Room, and thereafter I'll ask everyone to throw in for tickets for the raffle.

PLEASE TO BRING SOMETHING FOR THE RAFFLE.

After that you're on your own.

As always, the official hotel rules are that you can't bring your own booze downstairs and booze it up, and the as-to-be-enforced wink-wink rule is: be cool about it. I'm yet to hear of any problems from our group so no more need to be said.

Any questions, PM me.

And thank you once again for your support.

Update: The Friday run is set.

We'll set off at 9 am from the hotel parking lot on a no-highways, mostly backroads run to The Louise Arnold Tanger Arboretum where we'll stroll about the grounds and enjoy the impressive collection or rare and beautiful trees on the grounds of the Lancaster Historical Society (which is also the grounds of former President James Buchanan's house, aka Wheatland).

Then we'll cross the river and head down to the Moondancer Winery, which has graciously agreed to fire-up their pizza oven for lunch during our tasting, then back to the hotel or points West.
Road time on this trip is 3 hours by Google map. It could be shortened considerably by recourse to I-83, 76, etc.; those taking the full route should expect to get back to the hotel around 3 to rest up for the Restaurant Scramble and evening bench racing sessions.
I'll be looking for a solid headcount for this by Thursday, May 11, so I can relay that to the winery.

Sounds good Ed !

So to clarify the bidding.

Wednesday evening May 10 will be the earliest arrivals and that will include me. Hotel is Courtyard by Marriott in Mechanicsburg aka Camp Hill PA.

Thursday May 11 9:30ish AM will be the Bank Run, an hour-fifteen cruise down some back roads to the First National Bank Museum in Columbia. We're going to park in a lot about a block down from the bank on the left. It's an hour to an hour-30 tour by Nora Motter Stark and the cost is $10 a head at the door. After that we'll have lunch just up the street at the old apothecary, Hinckles which is one block north of the museum, and two blocks from our cars (unless you grab a street spot). Then we'll cruise back to the hotel or elsewhere.

Thursday night dinner is Theo's Bar & Grill on the patio. Why not?

Friday May 12 morning starts another scenic cruise, this one to the Tanger Arboretum in Lancaster. Parking there is on site of the Historical Society and is free, as is access to the park. Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home.

We'll pack it in there after a little while and drive back over the river and down the road to the Moondancer Winery in Wrightsville, which has offered to fire up its pizza oven for us. Parking there is on site. We'll chill out there and sip some wine—maybe buy a bottle or two?—then boogie on down the line.

Friday dinner is the "Restaurant Scramble." An updated list of restaurants with directions will be posted. Alan already suggested getting a big group together and hitting Pizza Grill, which is a real nice place and not wildly expensive.

Saturday May 13 is Show Field day. I'll be heading down to Carlisle proper probably in the 9 o'clock hour, with a camp chair or two and maybe a cooler. As many of you know, Carlisle's Import and Performance Show is a feast for the senseless, with many vehicles on display, both static and revving loudly! Those wishing to make alternate plans on that day are perfectly welcome to do so. I might try to get into some of @PrickleyPete's action with the dune buggy peoples.

Dinner on Saturday will be 6 pm at Snapper's in Mechanicsburg, which has agreed to make an arrangement of tables for our group and serve us from a special menu (posted above). You'll be able to order from that and divide your checks as you like.

Dessert and coffee will be served afterward in the Hospitality Room at the hotel. I foresee locally-baked PIE. Because everyone here likes it.

After that, the RAFFLE. It is my intention to limit the ticket sales this year to 1 per customer. Probably we'll do $10 a ticket, but I might try to squeeze a couple more bucks out of you-all if the crowd is real light.

And that's about it.

As of this moment the roster of participants include:

Me, Merklin, Bruce and Norma, Cory and Jeni, Dave Kumpf, @Jack Crosby and Alice, Kelly Frazer, Jim Vickers, Glenn and Paul, Dale Schumacher, Bill and Audrey Haas from Pittsburgh, Al Greig, Bill Aschemann and Greg Strain (who will be at a different hotel). I think I'm forgetting someone.

If I'm missing you or someone you know, chime in please. I'm gonna make the name tags again and we just look more professional, as a group, when they're laser-printed instead of Sharpie'd.

EDIT: Add Bob and May Carley.

I'm booked at the hotel so officially it's a go.  Looks like most are going Wednesday but if anyone still wants to join for a ride on Thursday from VA through the back part of Maryland ( mostly 15 if I remember ) and up to PA say something on here or PM me.

Looking forward to it.

Now to stop working on my growing fleet of motorcycles and make sure little red is ready for the trip.

Excellent news, Schu. Thanks for the count, Alan. All the rest o' you slackers better get cracking!

OK so: I'm planning on handing out cruise directions via text or email so you can just hit the link on your phone and open the turn-by-turn navigation. This will require the (free) Google Maps app, which I suppose many of you already have and which I downloaded for the first time onto my iphone a couple weeks ago. Seems to work fine.

I just emailed the rough route to a few of you in hope of getting feedback and trouble-shooting. Does anyone have any questions or concerns about this?

Looking good come and join the fun !                                                                          Carlisle Marriott Room list to date: (15)  Erickson, Alan & Connie , Bruce & Norma Stumpp , Cory & Jeni Drake,  Dave Kumpf, Jack & Alice Crosby, Kelly Frazer, Jim Vickers, Glenn & Paul, Dale Schumacher, Bob and Mary Carley, Haas, Al Greig, Bill Aschemann . Max & Toni  Zimmer...
