Ok everyone as promised, here is the long-awaited RSVP and Order Form for the Saturday Gala at Carlisle. As I said in the other thread, this will be held at The Orchards, a banquet facility and restaurant about 15 miles from the hotel site. There will be a cash bar, food, and the usual Tomfoolery that we do (and maybe some unusual Tomfoolery or even hijinx) before repairing back to the Hospitality Suite for the annual Spare Parts, Weird Tools, Wine, Booze and Art Raffle.

Dinner is $40 per head, please send the check or money order made out to me at the below address or PayPal me the dough.

If you use Paypal please use "friends and family" option and put your full name in the message so I can credit you. BUT ALSO SEND THE FORM SO I CAN DO ALL THE HOUSEKEEPING/NAMETAGGING/ACCOUNTING/RE-COUNTING AS NEEDED FOR THE WEEKEND.

Thanks all!

On the first lengthy Jim Ward trip, I was frankly worried about him so I volunteered to call him daily and report back to the SOC on his progress.  IIRC that was when he still had his Vintage Speedster.  Behind the scenes, I had a list of SOC and personal friends all along his route that I could call in case he needed anything.  I wasn’t always available, so my son would call him when I couldn’t.  Jim got the biggest kick out of how we both sounded alike and he didn’t always know who the heck he was talking to!

Anyway, I will never forget some of those calls and just talking about how his day went, scenery he had been traveling through, people he had met, issues with the car, issues with him (some reported, some not) and so on.  Made for a great travelogue for both Chris and me and for the SOC folks as well.  The downside of all that was that Chris and I never met Jim face-to-face......Such a pity.

Later, Jim and Henry collaborated on his Ruby (with quite a bit of input from George Brown) to end up with exactly what he was looking for as the ultimate cruiser.  I recall that he picked it up in Vancouver and drove down to a West Coast gathering and then back to his home in Oklahoma City.  THAT trip he was doing pretty well, health-wise, and while he had to be very careful of his health, he didn’t feel as though he needed us following him along.  We secretly kept track of him almost daily anyway...

Later on, he picked up a virus on his last trip and his suppressed immune system just kind of imploded.  Any of you relative newcomers on here can read about Jim, his trips and his cars by searching on here for posts by Jim Ward.  You will be rewarded with a lot of heart-warming posts, and a lot of technical gold as well.

It’s too cold to go outside.  Why not read some great SOC history?

I roomed with Jim during the Knotts Berry Farm Replica Rendezvous in the spring of 2005. He had taken delivery of Ruby in Vancouver, and driven down the coast to LA.

We had become friends though this site, then by email, and finally via phone conversations. Jim had gathered a band of like-minded car-guys who all corresponded via an email list, when he put together his IM order and during the wait for delivery. That group (the Ward Automotive Gruppe) still corresponds (and sometimes gets together) today, 14 years later.

I'll always be grateful to have known Jim, but I'm most grateful for him introducing me to some of the finest men I've ever had the pleasure to have called my friends. It was my honor to have known Jim as a friend.

The king is dead, but not forgotten. Godspeed, Jim Ward.

Jim and I talked only once on the phone , he called and was sending me a new chrome spare tire that was new and he felt I could find a home for it on one of my earlier builds. To the point, that memorable phone call went on for nearly three hours trading growing up stories and how we always managed to  stay one minute ahead of getting caught doing this and that,   we laughed and laughed...………………………………………………..

Just so we don't forget, this thread was originally about making your reservations for the Gala Saturday Night Dinner, Award and BS-ing Banquet.

If you haven't already, please help Big Ed out and get your RSVP filled out with the forms up above (you can omit any information regarding your mother-in-law) and mail the form along with your Moolah to Ed Erickson ASAP so he'll have that important headcount for the restaurant.

Thanks, from the Majority Whip.....

The banquet rsvps are coming in a steady clip. Thanks to those who have sent checks (or pledged them) or paypal'd me the dinner dough. So far we have

Bruce and Norma Stumpp

Lane Anderson

Bill Ascheman

Jim Lanz & guest

Michael & Jianping McKelvey

Richard & Becky Pascale

David & Francine Stroud

Toni & Max Zimmer

14 and counting!

Alan and I are still working out a few other details for the weekend's activities but things are shaping up nicely and I am getting pretty psyched.

Hope you-all are too, and please get those little forms back to me as soon as you're able.

One more thing: Let me know if it's OK to text your cell phone during the weekend's events as was done last year by Cory & Jeni. I forgot to add that to the RSVP thingie and while I don't yet know if I'll be setting up for the text option I'd like to have it.
