Catalina Weekend November 19, 2010???

Yesterday there was some talk of trying to get a weekend trip over to Catalina before the end of the year and I'm following up to see what people's weekend schedules are looking like for November and December.

In November it looks like the only available weekend would be November 19.

My thought would be to take the Catalina Express over on Friday and rent a couple Condos in Hamilton Cove or 1 large house in Avalon.

Transportation on the Catalina Express over to the island would cost $66.50/person Round Trip and we could also reserve the Captain's Lounge for up to 6 of us for another $60 each way (cabin fee. not per person fee)

For those who can't be on a boat or would like to fly, cost is $168/person Round Trip.

Pricing: Cost could be anywhere from about $200/person (8 people in a 4 bedroom house) to 340/person (for two 3 bedroom condos for 12 people) including boat transportation and accomodations. Of course there a lot of other scenarios that can play out but the pricing will fall somewhere in that range.

Please let me know if you're interested and if November 19-21 works out for you. If not, please suggest dates in December.

A couple of years ago we (my boyz and I) pulled in 13 legal size in 1 night (our best)we walked from the condo in Hamilton bay every night until we couldnt eat lobster anymore.( is that possible)!!! On a sailboat for a week off of Sanclemente Isle we were making lobster and Lucky charm omelettes we got so many (not for the squeamish).

If the weather works out, I'd love to cruise across and join you. I spend a fair bit of time over there on my boat when I can, and it's a great place when the sun shines. Not sure that I'm ready to sleep in a confined space with any of you yet, but it would be my pleasure to take a few of you over - there's plenty of entertaining space, plenty of refrigerator space, and a RIB that's fast enough to give even a hardcore Speedster owner a few thrills...

Official Plan Update

No one wants to go to Catalina and have crappy weather. So, if you want to go, put Nov 19-21st on your calendar. When the 10-day forecast comes out, we'll decide if we're going or not and book accomodations then.

We'll get a final head count (read: financial commitment) on November 12th.

John, if the trip is on, I'd bet that you'll have many takers on your offer to take us over to the island. Just don't let Vince try to get Terri on your boat - she doesn't do boats well. :-x

And a little side-bar: Why am I posting this??? Blake is supposed to be in charge of the Catalina trip.

My last trip to Catalilna was a few years ago - but is was memorable from a motorsports perspective. The boat was a 23 foot SKV open, semi-vee powered by a V-drive 427 big block Ford. After clearing the harber from Newport, it only took about 20 minutes to get to Avalon!

I was real proud of the fact that at least I had the presence of mind to look over my shoulder to get a visual on how to find the harber entrance for our return trip. I let the driver sweat that one out the next day when he realized his "oh shit" moment!

As close to an off-shore race as I'll ever get.

In A Word Yes! We eat bugs till we puke. Abs not so much too much pounding! Tho I heard the bugs weren't doing so good this year (cold water)some bug hugger told me. He didn't eat them, only caught and counseled them (about their trauma) and let them go after. So maybe I'll go easy on them this year and buy the $50 ones at the restaurants who only serve the ones who volunteer.
