I just stepped over here from the Speedster forum, you guys seem to run a little harder here.

Does anyone have any experience with the CB Mag 44 heads? I'm installing heavier springs and once the "old" springs were out of the heads and on the table, they were much shorter than the new springs.

If you place a new stock VW spring, a new heavy duty spring and one of the used springs that came in the 44's on the work table. all side by side, the old spring from the head is nearly 0.75 inches shorter than the others. Did Mags come with special shorter springs, or has the spring lost it's temper and no longer returns to "stock" height?

The heavy duty and old Mag spring compress to the same amount before binding, but uncompressed the height difference is huge.

Any experience with this, any help. The heads are old/used swap meet items, but don't look at all abused.

Thanks, TC

You're right, those speedster guys spend an inordinate amount of time patting themselves on their backs and talking about Janis Joplin, and What makes you feel good. HA!!!!

On the other hand, we tend to be more techincal. ??????

LOL

Probably a good question for CB Performance to answer

Here's a toll free number you can call 800-274-8337
Thanks again,

Anyone interested in Larry's Joplin reference, go here:

www.petersen.org/default.cfm?DocID=1014&cat=Cars%20%26%20Guitars&ExhibitID=36

You'll have to "copy and paste" but you'll be in the know if you do.

I finally got in touch with a transplanted Californian who said "It's all good!" I guess that CB uses stock length springs in all their non-double spring street heads. You don't start getting nuts until you go to GM or Rover springs, then everything is up for grabs.

Thanks for all the help, I've gotta split back to the Speedster guys, we're discussing the correct way to secure a basket to the luggage rack . . . plus I've got to get my aprons in the wash.
