Not mine.  Know I am about the only one that likes these.  Kit originally sold for $15k with just over 200 reportedly made by CMC.  Larger engine compartment than Speedster (thinking H6 Subaru).

Agree but with only 229 original 959s built,  you will never see one on the road.  So rare trumps ugly in some cases.  Buy-it-Now is 1/2 to 1/3 of a comparable CMC Speedster.  Just needs a top and frame - so $500.  If it were blindly fast it would compensate for ugliness just like original.

Were these made with the same shortened VW pan?  Would a current Vintage body fit on it?

Hey, that one is further along than mine and less $ than I have invested in mine too! $8500 is about 1/2 of the kit price (with no donor) back in 1990.

I've been trying to get a build manual for the 359 without paying $32 for it at MGMagic (wanted to scan and have it uploaded here).  I believe it is on a full size VW chassis (there are a couple SOCers with one).  For sure, the engine compartment is easily 10" larger.  A pancake 914 T4 2L would drop right in with no issues. Plus the overhanging rear end appears longer and maybe even the space between the door opening and the rear wheel opening.  I do believe it takes the same Speedster top and frame.
