Hello:

I own a CMC built speedster with serial number S2471 (this appears on the door jam on the drivers side stating that it is a Classic Speedster built by CMC). Is there anyway to find out the "donor" vehicle specifications of this car using this information? I need to purchase brakes etc and everyone asks - what is the original donor vehicle spec? If their is another way to determine the pedigree of my vehicle - I would appreciate someone telling me. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the info. I pulled the carpet (actually cut the carpet) right where the "back seat started - no serial number - looks like that location is where the weld joint was done. (according to the manual I bought online to understand how things went together, CMC cut 11 or 12 " of the frame and pan out of the bug chassis to allow for the correct length.

I will continue to try to find the pedigree - thanks for your help - and quickly.
I remember, the CMC shortening procudre calls for a flap in the upper section of the tunnel. If your looking to identify the model year of the chassis you can get a good idea as to the approximate year by some of the components in the car. For instance: IRS or swingaxle rear? King pin front end or ball joint? Most replacement parts will be based on those questions, and parts will cover a wide range of actual model years.
Robert,

If you can't find the VIN post some pictures of the parts or maintenance items in question. A good start would be the engine above and below, brakes front and rear. There are folks on this site that will recognize just about any part you take a picture of...

...Umm parts of your car I mean :)
