Well, some of us (Alan Merklin and, I think, Bill Drayer, among others) are running deeply dished wheels with VW bolt patterns (narrow, not wide-fives).

Another bunch (like me) are running Porsche Fuchs wheels with the Porsche 5-bolt pattern, but with adapter/spacers to go from the 4-bolt VW pattern to the 5-bolt Porsche. I have 6" Fuchs with 205X16's on front, and 7" on the rear with 225X16" (yeah, their BIG!) with 1.25" spacers front and rear. The 7" wide rear wheels are dished out an additional 1" over the front, and they fit the wheel wells perfectly, but the fronts could use that extra inch to make them look perfect too - oh well...

Then there are the folks like Jerome Smith who have custome rims and had special spacers made to adapt to the hub bolt pattern and the wheel pattern AND put the wheels out where they belong.

Of course, you'll get lots of feedback about the riskiness of cheap Asian spacers and such, you just have to know what you're buying.

Use the search fuction to look through old posts. There should be enough info on this topic to choke a horse.

Gordon has summerized to three basic ways to fill those fat fenders. Each option has its own balance of dificulty, engineering soundness and of course money.

IMHO...

1. Deep dish VW pattern wheels; Pros: Simple, sound and I would guess least expensive Cons: Limited styles availible

2. Fuchs; Pros: "Porsche Look" Cons: Requires special drums/disks drilled for porsche pattern. Most likely requires spacers due to the limited number of offsets to choose from. The rims can be expensive.

3. Custom Wheels: Pros: Infinite Number of styles and tire widths avalible. Cons: Requires custom (aka expensive) adapters/spacers, custom drilled disks/drums and lots of time to measure and remeasure to get them right.

I have a flared Vintage (not CMC), but they might be similar. I went the fuch route, 8x15's, with 265/50's front and rear. No spacers, 5 bolt porche pattern the disk brakes. They fit, barely.

I would recomment (as other have recommended to me), that you do the rims and tires last, after you have the complete body on. If I had purchased wheels/rims before I was able to really test fit things I would have gotten the wrong ones, and if you go the fuch route, that means a lot of wasted money as they are not cheap.

Lots of options here though.
I have a CMC flare. The wheels I have are 17 X 8 with a 5" back spacing. The wheels were made to order. The rear tires are 245/40zr17 ( 24.7 dia. and 9.6 " wide) the fronts are 215/40zr17 (23.9" dia. and 8.6" wide) The previous owner narrowed the front by 2" . I will run 3/4" spacers to widen the front track. Also converted the bolt pattern to 5 lug 4 -3/4". Ric Oliver from vwparts .com will sell you two front rotors and two rear rotors for $200 which includes shipping... that is you have disc brakes in all four corners.
