Famous or Infamous? Would love to know # of Speedster they and FiberFab produced over the years - classic, california (were they the first flared fender?) and 959 version. By sheer # I'd say FAMOUS - still amazes me that 20 years down the road you can still find NOS ones still crated and untouched.

On the FiberFab YAHOO forum someone posted other names CM went by over years -

"Auto Resolution", "Innovative Street Machines", "Classic Auto Replicas", "C.A.R.S", "Champion Auto Works", "GGL", and "Street Beasts" All the names that Classic Motor Carriages went by during and after CMC was shut down in the mid 1990's.

I was familiar with all but: "C.A.R.S", "Champion Auto Works", "GGL". Did Google on GLL and its George G. Levin. A search on GGL kit cars brings up interesting results. Ok, change my evaluation to INFAMOUS!

Here's one link (read the blog posts too):

When I got my 959, there were some origonal cmc brochures in amongst the manuals. They are pretty cool. My own serial plate says #202,, and I read that classic made just over 220 959's. I know that ThunderRanch made a handful more, after that, but I am unsure how many. I have often wondered what happened to the molds. Some have suggested that the 959 was just a bunch of extra parts grafted onto a 356 body,, but that simply is not the case. I have had some interesting corespondance with someone who worked at CMC,, and he indicates that it was an absolutely bizzare place to work !!
