If you scroll though the pictures, I think Wolfgang is right - I'm guessing CMC. The gauge layout is CMC (not JPS), although whoever built it used Stewart Warner gauges instead of the "Vintage" gauges supplied with the CMC kits. There is a half-moon "bumper pad" on the dash, which 99 times in a hundred makes it either a CMC or an IM. The only thing that looks JPS is the mirror placement, which is exactly where John likes to put them

... that, and the fact that it burned with less than 200 mi on the clock.

I remember how heartsick I was when my engine seized after 15 minutes of idling in the driveway when first started.  I can't imagine how bad that owner felt after that happened.

Well, I guess maybe I can - he just threw up his hands and said "F - iT! walked dejectedly into the house and put the ad up on the web.  I would have, too.  Just walk away from it and find another hobby - like cooking, or photography or something.

I’m no forensic genius, but what do you guys make of the damage being centered on the RT rear fender?
I think we all assume gas fire (@CarlosP are you listening?) but it seems weird the the damage isn’t concentrated on the engine compartment.

Never mind. Just looked at the rest of the pics.

I guess it was an engine fire that started on the pass side carb.

Yeah it came out the left rear wheel well too --- but just smoke damage there.  I bet just the fiberglass mess is left where it looks like blistered paint.  All that would have to be cut out (ha, or pulled away).  My guess is the right carb caught fire --- but not sure why it burned all way to the door? Good sales pitch for BlazeCut fire suppression system!

Everybody rags on plastic fuel filters being a hazard, but I've never seen a fire start as a result of one.

I'd bet 95%+ of the fires we see start with a sputtering backfire (as the result of a plugged idle jet or some other malady). Fuel spits up the carb and soaks the filter element, the car backfires and catches it on fire, and the car burns down as a result.

Unless JPS left the fuel hose hanging in the breeze(of the fan intake)...

On the stock single Solex carb the fuel nipple is a press fitting and over time it can work it's way out. I safety wire the fuel line hose clamp to the closest screw on the carb top.

Yup that's what happened to my father-in-laws.  Melted carb and broke back window glass.  More devastating when the fiberglass resin catches fire. Unfortunate SOC owner here.

Rear toast

Not sure how this one occurred - assume electrical or dropped stogie?
