Hi Folks,

Anyone know where I can get a rear deck lid latch that bolts onto the body that the pin from the deck lid fits in to?  I have a block in that area and the cable but no one ever, in the 20 odd years this car has been around, ever installed the latch so when I go over good bumps, well you know....

Thanks,

Frank

I have that same problem.  My latch is complete but the spring is worn out so when the lid is popped it does not have teh oomph to keep it up and goes back to the locked position.  I tried putting the softest shocks that I could find on but they throw the lid in the air and stress it into one direction.   Other draw back to shocks is in the event of fire you do not want a big rush of air hitting your engine compartment.  Better it should just peek up and you hit the crack with a fire extinguisher.  I had an engine fire in my Karmann and made the mistake of opening to quickly.  That is why I have naturally trimmed mustache and eyebrows---permanently.  On a used latch how does one know that the spring on that one is not worn out?

You may be right Brudda.  I have no idea but I'm hopeful.  My lid just flaps in the breeze and hops up over bumps and bangs down.  I'll take my chances and see if I can rig something up.  Twenty three years on the road and no one ever thought to install a latch.  I have to reach between grill slats and pull it up.
Thanks,
Frank
