Hello,

I just found this forum; came over from the Speedster side or things. I'm in the middle of a sort of mixed steel/real and fiberglass coupe that is being done up in an Outlaw (what ISN't?) style using the flaired fendered Speedster compenents. A terrible mix of parts, I know, but I've got them, may as well use them.

I'm here because I 'm trying to find out if anyone has/knows or/ever heard of an EARLY fiberglass replica of the 550 that fit on a STOCK length VW chassis or factory tube chassis. I think that it was manufactured in one of the South Eastern states 15 years or so ago, maybe even more. They were popular in their day and were featured in "VW & Porsche" magazine and "Hot VW's" at one point.

I'm interested in building a "version" of the old Abarth-Carrera but with more of a Spyder rear section, and extended as well. Like a LeMans car that never happened. One of those "what if . . . " kind of cars. I want the stock lenght because I want to emulate/immitate the "feel" of the long wheel base cars that were used on the European tracks for so long.

Any help at all in locating one of thes early bodies, complete or partial, smashed or otherwise would be a huge help.

Thanks,

TC

The only car I'm aware of that fits a VW chassis is the Perry Design 550 replica. Manufactured in Corona Calif. It utilizes a rear engine design as opposed to Beck & vintages mid engine design.

One is on e-bay right now.

Thanks Larry.

I checked it out on Ebay. That isn't the car that I'm looking for. I guess that the one I need is older than I thought. The Perry design seems to lengthen both the front and rear bulkheads for a nicer, more asthetic look, this older car had all of the extra length (17 inches(?) placed behind the cockpit., strange proportions, I guess, but better for the closed coupe replica that I'm planning/hoping for.

It's probably a wild goose chase, though. I think that it was probably not too popular and offered way too many years ago.

Again, thanks
