Dear Faithful Owners

& Future Drivers,

Having worked diligently since initiating a voluntary recall on February 17, 2023 of our SOLO (G3/G2) to investigate a possible loss of propulsion in 2019, 2021-2023 models, ElectraMeccanica today announced we would remedy the issue with a buyback.

You can find general information on this remedy in today’s news release. Customers will be contacted directly with regard to their specific buybacks, as ElectraMeccanica continues to operate in full compliance with NHTSA regulations.

So, with only 430 vehicles involved, this may not mean curtains for the company, although it's not likely to help sales much.

Sounds like, due to potential liability issues, the suits figured this was the safest path. And, who knows, it could just be an overcautious safety circuit, like the 'limp-home' mode in some ICE cars. Overcautious is a good thing in a system where overheating can get pretty exciting pretty quick.

Still, when the company's history is written, today isn't likely to make the highlight reel.

OK, so I missed last month's company statement where they announced they're abandoning the SOLO outright, have broken with the Chinese manufacturer that was making SOLO's, are using their Mesa, AZ facility to help another company build electric motorcycles (?), have realized the folly of trying to sell a three-wheeled single-passenger electric vehicle in the US market, and are now considering building a small 4-wheeled electric vehicle.

And there's also the small matter of their stock price having dropped from $.65 then to about $.04 now.

So, no, not much good news here.

I wonder how many there are and what ElectraMeccanica is going to do with them.

I also wonder if they are actually ceasing production of the Solo.  The letter and linked statement don't clearly say that.  But, they are going to refund people in the queue.

It would be fun to acquire a carcass and put a nice quiet Honda type mc engine in it sort of like a Velorex or Isetta.

I just was mentioning to someone that I felt there may be a chance that the founding family might find holidays to be a bit long and just maybe keeping their hands in the replica business they started could happen as time goes on and distance is put between career changes.  It was a passion of theirs for years, hard to do nothing .... right @Alan Merklin  We do have a large IM fan base up here and some are worldwide.      :>

Yeah - a solo passenger with motorcycle licensing in many states seemed a non-starter.  I like the Solo front design - just not the back at all.  Maybe the old Solos can be made into a modern Morgan 3 wheeler with closed in front and not simply totally disappear?  Nice to see innovation and new manufacturing in good ole USA.

ElectraMeccanica is a Canadian company. They've got an Arizona factory, but I don't know if or how many cars (?)  have been built there. Not quite "the good ole USA", but "good ole North America"?

As far as converting them to anything - the defect is that the vehicles just stop in the middle of the road. The company doesn't know why, and they're buying them back. There is a full refund for giving them back, and no support of any kind if you don't. Anybody with any sense would bail on them while they still can.

I know Henry was a part of the startup, and I know we all love him - but ElectraMeccanica was doomed from the start. The only surprise to me is that they are still feigning solvency. The stock is trading at $.59 - why it's not zero is the only real question. There is no product, no product on the horizon, and the company has hemorrhaged money since it's IPO in 2017.

I like weird stuff, but this 3-wheeled golf-cart never held any interest for me.

My fondest hope is that the 356 molds, tooling, etc. still exist, and that Henry can somehow get it all back and rebuild the company, maybe under a different name, perhaps with one of his (capable) kids running it.

I've got no idea what he's planning to do with his recently rented commercial space, but I hope it's building cars.
