I sure wouldn't leave out IM in Canada from your consideration!  You're asking the impossible.  Some are quick build $30k mass-build shops; some take 5 years+ and some like IM are high end builds that can easily run $60k.  Some stick to tried and true VW pan and other go with custom chassis.  Same with engines as options - air cooled, Subbie or other (Audi/VW water cooled).  Often less hassle/risk buying a used sorted out Speedster that you can sit in and drive before putting a deposit down and having a long wait.

OK since this will be a big fight anyway and since I'm probably the least qualified person here to say what most would probably admit is consensus (if such a thing exists).

In order:
IM
Beck
JPS
Vintage
---
SAS May or may not still be building cars, though apperantly they are still taking deposits.

Seduction Motors can't be ranked for a year or two, by which time we could expect to hear from some actual owners.

Every and anyone else is either too-low volume to count or is just reselling cars built by those last 3.

If I were buying one I would get one used from an SOC member, as those tend to be known quantities. For a nicely re-done car that is arguably better than new, Dr. Clock on the east coast or Troy Sloan on the west. Both have good reputations among the people in a position to know.

I agree with Ed, but Rusty and Greg are a little behind the times on $60k IMs.  I believe that they START at $60k and I've seen some over $100k.  Expensive, beautiful works of art.

I guessing a little here, but I believe that Becks start in the low/mid $30k range while JPS is mid/upper $20s to start.  Vintage starts in the low/mid $20s.

One aspect that must be considered when buying from a manufacturer is after-sale support.  Both IM and Beck have stellar reputations there.

As a CMC owner, I'm offended.

These cars are all subject to quality differences just like any mass produced cars by the big boys.  Mondays and Fridays happen everywhere in the world.... Trust your eyes and folks on this site to guide you and bring up issues that you might not think of yourself and you'll most assuredly be better off.....as well as your wallet.

False, I would provide side-by-side pictures of some of those manufactures posted on your list as far as quality... but I'm not trying to step on toes here.

In the last year, we have went through 12 chassis on Spyders. We are just getting into the Coupe field. Speedsters eventually. Our quality and customer service speaks for itself. Most of our clients are extremely busy people, they chose us for our quality and attention to detail. To be honest, I don't even think any are members on this forum, maybe browsed it once or twice.

If you are looking for a mass produced Speedster, BECK, IM, VINTAGE are on that list. The quality is basic. Vintage Speedsters makes a very nice low budget Speedster with a very very basic and clean interior. Engines, very plain, paint work, not car show concours quality, but you get what you pay for. They push them out quicker than any other builder on the market and they are good at what they do.

I personally have not seen an IM in person, so I cannot say anything about them.

JPS, mid level, takes a little longer per build, offers a Subaru powered Coupe like us, he's been doing it for quite some time as well. Cannot go wrong there either.

Beck, can't go wrong with them either, prices vary based on options, not as mass produced as Vintage Speedster, they also offer some different variations.

SAS... wouldn't even consider them to make the list. Their one green coupe has been in and out of various shops all over Southern California, if you want some numbers to call and verify quality and issues in the SAS cars, I can provide them, just PM me.

Just because we haven't been around as long as the mentioned companies above, doesn't mean we shouldn't be considered.

I can give some referrals to clients who offered to speak about our builds/products/parts/and customer service, just PM me for info. Again, we are only building a Coupe as of now, the Speedster is coming eventually.

I find it amusing how some of you guys on here stick to what you know. Here is a list of some clients who have had our cars built and delivered, and some on order who stepped outside of the box, went with a new company, and were blown away with our product:

Joseph Schnieder - Manager/Head of Operations - Facebook (Spyder)

Brian Krzanich - CEO - Intel (Spyder & Coupe)

Toby Cheng - Director of Sales - Marriott

Seyed Ehsan Hashem - Chief Operating Officer - Golden Systems Middle East/Dubai (Spyder)

Robert Angelo - Executive Producer - Roads & Rides (Parts)

The list goes on, what I am trying to say here is that most of the members on here who sit on their computers all day and just post, post, post... have no clue what they are referring to. They may simply read about it, Google it, etc, but until you have seen our products hands on... judge for yourself, I know hands down, not one of you will be disappointed. Some of you have seen the TV show Overhaulin... they don't just invite us out there to be on set cause our cars are sub-par... think about it.

I can give more referrals if needed, those are just ones who have made it a point and came forward, telling me I could use them as referrals without asking permission.

So summary: quit being simple minded, step outside of your comfort zone, and be prepared to be amazed at our quality, delivery time, customer service, and overall product.

Happy Friday.

Like politics and religion - we never discuss who is best. Ha, most of the cars at Carlisle are CMC/FF anyway.

Discussing who is best is like comparing apples and oranges. Plus not one person on here has owned one from every builder. lol

I've had Vintage, CMC, Fiberfab and Intermeccanica (Canada) which is very different than the older Intermeccanica (US) cars.  I've also been around the industry longer than most here, but why does my opinion matter?

Each car, even within the same manufacturer, can vary greatly.

This is not a useful subject. It's the same as going onto a pickup truck forum and asking who makes a better truck, GMC, Dodge, Toyota or Chevy?

There is more than enough information in the 300,000+ discussions in our archives for anyone to be able make some decisions.

Here is the first one to start, granted it is a little outdated.

I'm locking this thread before it gets out of control.
