Hey All,

A speedster has always been a dream of mine and I've been searching for a while. How difficult is it finding a clean speedster around Chicago? It seems like a hit or miss because the low volume of these cars. I've been scavenging CL, eBay, random Google searches and of course the forums but it seems difficult to find one that I want in my price range. (under 20k)

Any tips for searching for one of these beauties in the cold Midwest?

Thanks for the response Tom. I figured I would be on the absolute low end of the price spectrum. I feel like i've seen a bunch of posts of people picking up clean speedsters for ~15k, granted that's probably someone getting a very good deal.

Im not in a hurry to buy, especially with winter around the corner. S.E. cars look fantastic, unfortunately a bit out of my price range, even the few used cars they have on their website.

imSLOW.  That's a good price and maybe negotiable. You pay more for a Beck, but you know what they say...I live in Detroit and it was important for me to be in a reasonable driving distance to my builder.  I went there before I ordered a car and met Kevin and Carey and test drove a car.  Even though everyone on this site helped me spec out my car while being built, after one summer of driving I had a few upgrades that were beyond my ability and took it back.  This winter, after season #3 and a lot more tweaks by me, I've returned my car for some big upgrades and few minor ones and to spend the winter there.  No matter what you get, you'll end up tweaking it to your taste.  Even your fellow Chicagoan, Marty, who has a lot of experience and spec'd out his ultimate IM dream car is still fooling around with it some.  It's a sickness.  If you buy a Beck, you know who built it, you will get the best customer service around, and you will be able to get expert help a reasonably short drive away.  In fact, I drove my car to Bremen in November and took the Amtrak home to Dearborn. It couldn't get much more convenient.  I hear that they have trains that go to Chicago, too ;-)

Brian - I picked up my Beck in May and could not be happier. If you want to check it out I live in Geneva. It will be heading back to Bremen soon for a couple of winter upgrades. The guys on this site are a wealth of knowledge and helped me out a ton on my decision. The proximity to Special Edition sold me, Carey has been fantastic no matter how mundane my questions have been.
