Hi Gang,

I am 3 weeks out from having full knee replacement on both knees. I opted to use a surgeon that uses the the Mako Robotic arm procedure. I was walking on my own without a cane or walker within 10 days. I can get in and out of my GT40 replica and my 77 Puma and work the clutch with ease. I had though it would be September before I would be doing this. What I nice surprise. I worked hard to get the final version of the Monster Type 4 engine now with HAM LE200 heads installed in the Puma prior to my 6/22 knee replacement date. I hadn't had time to do much more than get it running and take a very short test drive. I was able to climb in the Puma this morning fire it up and drive it 30 miles to my office. The engine ran flawlessly and has tons of power on tap. I am so excited to finally get this type 4 project finished and in my Puma. If you followed my build of this engine and some of the ups and downs I have had to over come, you will know why I am so excited. This engine build started with the purchase of a complete used 2056 Raby Type 4 that I planned on freshening and having a nice engine for under $4K. I then decided to build the engine out to 2.8L which I did. During the first week of driving it last year the throttle cable stuck wide open and something went bang before I could get the thing turned off. It turned out to be a broken cam and no other damage. Once together and running with an even hotter cam,(why not) I realized the new AA 38/48 stage 2 ported heads had issues. AA was good enough to refund my money for the returned heads and I ordered a set of LE200 heads which are supposed to be the best heads you can buy. Well they sure are pretty and they sure cost plenty. All said I feel blessed to be able to drive the Puma 3 weeks from having both knees replaced and also having the car run as well as it is. I have a little jetting work to do once I get time to get the car on a chassis dyno. It will be fun to see what HP/TQ numbers the engine puts out. Any guesses?Monster type 4 Puma first frive LE200 heads 2Monstoer type 4 Puma first drive with LE200 heads.Type 4 2.8 L monster engine after repair 9j1type 4 2.8L LE200 heads 1type 4 2.8L LE200 heads finally arrive 1Puma 2.8L type 4 magic hour pic 10-31-2020

I'm going to go out on a limb here- 235? (remember guys, this ain't no puny 2180!)

Not an Orange County dyno, so no Orange County Correction Factor. Also, it'll be a chassis dyno.

I'm going to put my (nonexistent) money on ~200hp.

My guess is that Lane will be right. It'll be the torque numbers under the curve that will be ridiculous. I'm guessing it'll have big, big torque numbers. I think Mitch has it right, "it'll be more than adequate".

I drove the Puma for a couple of hours yesterday in 90 deg. heat and it ran flawlessly and it ran at 180-190 oil temps max. I increased the idle jets from 50 to 55 and felt a seat of my pants increase in power. The 44 Webers I am running have the CB update modification on them. I am going to leave the jets alone from this point forward until I get on the dyno. I was getting some roughness at cruising when the carbs are barely opened. In my experience this tells me the idle jets are too small. The change got rid of that and also improved the acceleration. I am really loving this engine and the Puma, it is a blast to drive. The gearing of the  Rancho Pro Suby trans seems to be a great match for this engine. It probably puts out similar HP/TQ numbers as the NA Suby 2.5 engine. The Vintage Speed shifter makes the driving fun. I had plenty of people asking and complimenting the Puma yesterday. I am enjoying the payoff of the year plus time it took for this build and I still have some things left to do. Thanks to all for the encouraging and helpful remarks. I do plan on changing the wheels, I am more of an engine guy so this will be one of the last things I do LOL.. It can without a doubt hold it's own with just about any car on the road. The engine is finally running as I expected it should.
