Found a Intermeccanica ..Need HELP with the purchase price...

CA to USD =  $27,121 which  is a good deal for that IM...very nice car

Is the car in and registered in Canada, Damon ? If so, I'd say that it's a good deal if all is running well. 

David the car is registered in Canada and had never left. He is very very firm on $35,000 

$27k USD sound like a fair price plus No import tax.  No mention of milege and assume tires are not 10 years old.

That is a fair market price for sure... Jump on it before another does his homework and buys it from under you.

I'm telling you if you want a speedster from IM, that will not last in that condition. Don't bother calling IM, I have owned 2 IM's the used market for that car is $40K at least. 

It has new paint !  

Car has 80km, new tires. the guy who owns the car owns a body shop. so he repainted the car and went through it a couple years ago. The car is in show room condition inside and out. I was really looking for a fixer upper kinda car.. Its over my initial budget, as i just purchased a Porsche 911 in December ... haha .Thanks for your input guys.

That is one of Henry's first water cooled cars, before he went into installing Subaru engines.  If having an Audi engine in there doesn't bother you i.e. you really wanted an air cooled speedster, then it's a good buy at that price.

Comfortable roadster seats and door panels (pockets), roll up windows, nice colour scheme.  It looks like a very nice buy at $35,000. 

I'm on my fourth Intermeccanica, and they are good driveable cars, especially for the Canadian climate.

The Audi engine doesn't give a tremendous amount of horsepower, but there are a couple of modifications you can make to it.  Of course, these cars are light in comparison, so it will move along okay.  Be sure to check the motor mounts with that engine, but from the photos, all looks good.  Also, the CV boots, which can be an issue.

Very surprised to see that this one DOES NOT have roll-up windows.  It appears to have ferrules for side curtain mounting and has no slits for windows to go into.  Kind of odd for a recent IM.  Or am I hallucinating again?

You may be right, Lane.  I just assumed, of course, that it had roll ups.  Henry builds them as asked, so maybe the original owner wanted side curtains for originality.  Strange, as the car is not a pure Speedster re-creation, with roadster seats and door panels.

Engine is about 125 hp stock.  I put a new cam in mine and an ECU reflash.  Also placed better performing exhaust system.  Car was probably 135-140 hp when I was finished with it.  That cars a little lighter (mine was conv D) being a speedster and with no AC.  But the car will never be FAST.  I also did a nice brake upgrade.  Check to see if the car has the P 914 front suspension.  I'm assuming it does.  I don't think there is room for the radiator with the VW torsion bar set up in the front.  It is a little odd that there are no role up windows.  But believe it or not some people opted to go with curtains instead.  Go figure.  But for $27k American that a pretty sweet deal.

I believe this car was produced like that as a special request... in BC, rain capital, I don't know why, but the builder must of had his arm twisted to do it. 

Yes I agree this is a great deal. Not really concerned on the power side of motor. Really just want the car for cruising . Next weekend I’m going to look at the car. It’s been in storage the last 6 months and the owner is taking it out this weekend. Hopefully everything is as said to be. I can’t thank everyone Enough for all your time and reply’s. Always learning about these cars and with all your help it makes it that much easier.

Bob, thank you for all this and information! I’m not sure about the windows but this will be a great question to ask owner. Not super worried about the HP. Just want a car for cruising around Victoria . I would prefer a air cooled as I really don’t need a Audi motor. Like the fact that vw motors are super easy to work on. I will do some more digging this week on those motors .

Water cooled VW Audi SOHC 2.0.  One of the most ubiquitous engines in the world.  Only thing about that engine is that you will NEVER have to work on it.  It was installed as a 0 mile factory crate engine directly from VW Audi.  If you don't want to go crazy fast its a no brainer.

X2. There’s not much to think about here, unless you don’t really want a Speedster. 

BTW.  The heat in that car will blow you out.  You may not need windows.

BTW, our friend Phil here is a little of a speed freak - hence his new 550 Spyder with lots of horsepower - so when he says this IM is not fast, it's all relative...

But he did enjoy his Audi powered IM before the 'need for speed' engulfed him completely, and he went back to his motorcycle roots (which is what a 550 Spyder really is, only with four wheels). 

Anyway, think carefully about this purchase, to be sure it's the Speedster you really want.  Used IMs do come up once in a while, but not too frequently in Canada.

I wonder how fast a 1835 or 1915cc compared to that audi  

Tell us about your 911.

Ray.  I think my IM with that 2.0 VW/Audi was probably 0-60 in about 7 seconds.  I doubt that a 1915cc aircooled in my IM would even be close to that.  Probably 8-9 seconds to 60.  Anyone with a 1915 can certainly chime in.  I actually think my car was quick.  My 67 Mustang with a 289 was probably 0-60 in about 7 seconds.  And when I was 16 I thought that was smoking fast.  My new spyder will likely be in low 5s.  If I had enough rubber for the 230hp engine it would likely be in the 4s.

The car also has a single DIN stereo unit.  I'm sure one of the ugly Japanese units Henry used to install in these cars, including my own.  A Retrosound will slide in there nicely.  Someone on this site north of the border needs to buy this car.  Like any car it will require some TLC to get it right.  But it has good bones.

Your right Phil, my point really was what can you live with considering all the engines out there...

i believe this car was for sale before... around 2009 I had spoken to the previous owner in vancouver BC at the time he was looking for $32k no roll ups.
