Hi All you EU Spyder freaks [ and Speedsters ].
I've just come back from a visit to Mohr Innovationen to place my order for their new 550A Spyder - and they have agreed that they are willing to host an open day / Pig Roast at their Heyda [ nr. Dresden ] Auto complex in the late Summer for Spyder / RSK / Speedster owners - real or fake.
Having just sampled 4 days of their hospitality [ still got a sore head!! ], I think it should be a blast.
Thanx should go to Axel Weise for suggesting this little [ ?? ] gathering.
I am to liaise with their PR man [ Wolfgang von Voldemort ]for the English speaking group. I would like to hear from interested parties to gauge what sort of facilities [ size of pig ! ] will be required. ANy other suggestions would be welcome.

Hi Guys,
Due to the fact that there was 10" of snow when I got to Dresden, we didn't make it to Mohr's facility in the Czech republic, and Mohr's own Silver demo car was at his base nr. Stuttgart. They are still moving equipment into the workshops - the new paint plant and driers were being installed at the time.He did give me a promo disc featuring his 550 - the car was loaned to Becker Radio to promote their new Radio / Sat Nav. system.

As a consolation, I DID get to drive their new T6 Roadster rep. I drove it last year, but it wasn't completed and the drive had to be cut short as they hadn't yet fitted the wipers and it was persisting down!! [ few pix of that ].

I think I have you guys in particular to blame - John and Axel both sent me pictures of their cars when I was very vulnerable!! IE cash on the hip ready to buy a s/h Boxster!

Having already built one car [ Chamonix ], I'm looking forward to this project as I consider the dynamics of the design to be vastly superior to my old car - rear wishbones, cast alloy hub uprights, coil over shocks, etc.,etc. GRP looks excellent too, and I can't fault their steel fabrication. If only the lottery would come up that alloy body would be on my shopping list.
Regretably this has to be an "as and when" project and will undoubtedly be a 12 month [min] deal as I'll be building it abroad.
Any suggestions for style / colours? [ NOT Silver ]. Photos will be available as I get under way.
Xmas come early

Hey Axel,
Nearly forgot - any interest in a Pig Roast / meet in Heyda?
I've talked Mohr into hosting an open day / Pig Roast in late summer. It will be open to 356's and Spyders - real or fake. Probably be a few Cobras there as he also makes them!

We need some reasonable numbers to make it worth their while - if I'm not mistaken the old Sachsenring isn't far away???

Hey Axel,

My taste buds are working overtime already!!

That's a REALLY big pig then???!!! Oh yeah, and LOTS of beer!

Seriously, your help would be much appreciated, I am embarrassed to say that my knowledge of the German language is very limited [ I'm learning though! ] and the thought of trying to "do a deal" with a race track in German is very daunting. I don't want to trouble Mohr, as he's a VERY busy man. You up for that side of it cousin?

The Mohr complex is on the outskirts of Heyda - about 15 kms from Riesa and 60 kms from Dresden. I guess the Sachsenring is about the same distance? Strangely, I know the area quite well as I'm looking to buy an old Villa / Castle there. Their site is HUGE, with paved parking for about 100 cars in front of their workshops / showrooms.

Can WE get 100 cars?

I'll post some pictures on the forum - if I can work it out!! If not, I'll e-mail you direct.

I called in to the Freisinger works last week when we went to Karlsruhe - fantastic or what!! We were tripping over 904GT's, 908 Spyders, and a BRAND NEW 908 coupe shell. I lost count of the 356's after 30 odd! Also went to the Colani museum - my mind is still in shock.

Sorry now, I have to get back to dreaming about what I'm going to do with my 550 !!

Where are all you European Spyder / Speedster freaks at? Only ONE response and that's from the guy that suggested it!!! Axel.

Come on you Euro guys - do you WANT a meet or not?
Don't forget Mohr builds 356's, Spyders, and Cobras and the Rush - and the meet will be open to all who own real or replica versions.

I thought you guys liked to party?

Hello Beachcomber,

this is the typical situation! Everybody claims there is no action in Europe, but when you try to put something together the response equals almost ZERO! I have tried in the past to set up a Nuerburgring Meeting or Hockenheim, but no answers. So I guess people just like to make a lot of noise, but when it comes to action they all disappear.

This leaves just a small bunch of hardcore enthusiast, but then again maybe that is better then to have a whole bunch of types that whinge a lot but do not contribute in a positive way.

The same goes for the USA side, if you have done something special to your car a lot of people write that they want it too. Then when they find out that it is not for free or for a ridiculous cheap price they lose interest.

Axel

Hi Axel,

Just looks like you and me cousin!!! Can we eat a whole pig between us???? And what about all that Radeberger???? Jeeeez, we'll be busted for a month. Perhaps we should say it's a "European" meet, in case we upset any other nationalities!!!

I have to say that after my last visit, I have new respect for my Saxon ancestors - party on!!

Seriously - I'm now opening it up to other forums - Speedsters, Cobras, Rush, and of course - Spyders.

I've been working on a REAL 904 - we've decided to take moulds [ done ] and make a version of my 550 chassis [ spaceframe, double wishbones front and rear, magnesium hub uprights] that will fit the 904. We could copy the original chassis [ it's there and all complete ], but although that would be nice, it would be a retrograde step??

Come on Axel, need your input to the styling of my 550 - what do you reckon?

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure,

Hi Tom,

Mohr are ONLY design developers and manufacturers. They supply direct to distributors [ Cobra, Rush ], or in the case of their Porsche derived Products through Classic Roadsters Ltd. situated in England.

One of the main reasons for this is the obvious language difficulties [ potential] - so all Engish speaking enquiries go through Classic Roadsters. Their site has just gone live - www.classicroadsters.co.uk. They have an admin. address to field questions on behalf of Mohr. I believe the company principal - Martin Craven - is in the process of alerting all of the relevant Forums, so I guess you'll see a posting sometime soon. In the meantime - there you have it.

I've just come back from Mohr's complex near Dresden, and having spent MANY years in the speciality car business I can honestly say that their facility is second to none - and I include US operations in that statement.

I think that once their products become more widely known outside of the EU, more people will come to realise just how well designed and manufactured they are.
Hope that helps,
Beachcomber
Well here we are guys - almost 2006!!!

Thanks to the TWO people who contacted me re: a meet and Pig Roast in Germany.

Hmmmmm??? Not interested? Wrong area? You tell me.

Anyway, just to let you know, Mohr WILL be holding an open day at his Heyda works [ near Dresden ] in the summer of 2006. ALL owners of real or replica 356, 550 and 904 variants will be made welcome.

He WILL be putting on a Pig Roast and beer Tents, etc., and people will be able to tour the complex and see the various models on display and in the course of being built.

This will prove an ideal opportunity for an informal get together as there will be no overall "club" presence, although clubs will be made welcome.

Let's see if there are more than 2 brave souls in the whole of Europe who think their cars will make the journey.

A bit early, but seasons felicitations to one and all from Snowy Saxony.
Chris
