Hello,

First off I want to say this forum is great for those getting ready to purchase a speedster. I live in H.B. California and am getting ready to purchase a speedster. Question, I have roughly 22-24k to buy. Should I buy new or try my luck at a used model w/ more options? And if new, does Vintage have new in my price range.

Thanks Pat B.

Greg (Wolfgang) is right. You could into a new Vintage, but it would probably be low-spec. There are quite a few nice used ones available right now. Check out "Black Betty" on several threads here. Not sure what Troy is asking, but it's a nice looking car. Also, Bob Baumer has a really nice traditional outlaw for $22500. Check out the "Classifieds" forum.

What are you looking for, traditional or wide-body?
Pat - welcome! Buying your first Speedster "used" is a wise move. You save some of your hard-earned money as you find out if this kind of "motoring" is something you enjoy.

With that in mind, my 2009 JPS Outlaw Speedster is FOR SALE. It's a $30k build at a generous discount. And, with less than 3000 miles on it - well, it's as good as new.

That's the link to the original FOR SALE thread in the Classifieds. The car is still available and currently in residence at California Cars in Thousand Oaks (a reseller friend of mine). The price has recently been reduced, but I am motivated to sell, so, the phrase "make an offer" is appropriate.

Pat, you really ought to look at that teal car. I don't know if you'll want to look at it first, second or last, but it will probably be the best car you'll see for the money.
Hell, it's the best "pre-owned" Speedster you'll see for almost twice that money. Not to sleight others selling their cars right now, but if your goal is to drive a simple-appearing, road-ready car that'll smash its way down the road when you want it to, that's the one.
John put a lot of thought into it before, during and since the build. It's clean, it's got a positive history and the seller is a man with a sterling reputation.
Pat - FWIW, I've seen John's teal color Speedster and it is a bitchin' car. I am absolutely certain that John would be able to negotiate a sweet deal for you and you will get TWICE THE CAR your $22-24K would buy you new.

If wide-flare body is your game, then Troy Sloan's 'Black Betty' would an awesome choice as well. Both John & Troy's cars are well known on this site - you couldn't go wrong!

...I'm just saying...
Pat,

I'm late to the party and John is a friend. That said I have driven John's car and it is a blast to drive. It is NOT a stock looking (HO-Hum) Reproduction Speedster and IMHO has a BUNCH of real cool touches. You could do far worse than buying a real nice almost new JPS at a discount that John has fully sorted out and ready for you to enjoy!

Good luck on your quest.
My apologies, Pat, for the tidal wave of "recommendations."
It's a cool, little Outlaw and more than a few guys on this site like it, which is way nice.
But, if Hypnotic Teal Mica paint and a two-tone baseball glove interior are not your thing, that's fine.
However, if you dig the simplicity of the Outlaw design (not everybody does), it's not that long a jaunt from HB to TO (Thousand Oaks) for a visit and test drive. What the heck.

I will echo what the others have said about John;'s car. I saw it in person at this year's Morro Bay Speedster event and it is positively breataking in every way. I hav won quite a few trophies at various car shows but if John had his car at those shows too, I would have not see a single trophy!

It took me 18 months of hard work and great expense to sort my car
but John's comes "pre sorted" and totally ready to enjoy with zero additional expense.
Thanks guys for the great reply's I knew I would get some great answers to my questions. I believe I will look for a newer used model that will allow me more features for my money. John I love your speedster but looking for a black or silver for my first. Thanks for the offer and the advice. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks again
Pat
