Aloha,

So...uh...I've noticed that Speedsters never came w/ a glove box. Anyone ever tried to fabricate a hidden glove box or similar? Where do you put all of the things you need in a car but aren't supposed to bring into a Porsche? You know...like a map, pen¬epad, CD's, etc.

mahalo,

Aloha,

I ask this in relation to the "roll-up windows" thread somewhere else on the board. Some people think roll-ups are necessary, being that on IM's you can lock the car up. Whereas, others state that with a soft-top, it doesn't matter what you do. If someone wants to break-in to your car they'll just slash the top, so why not just let them open the door?

Well...like most others here...I would like to be able to park the car and not worry about someone gettin' a five-finger discount on my music while I'm wherever I am. I do agree that it is nice to lock the car, and I do agree that it would be horrible to have someone slash the top just to get some CD's and other junk.

If anyone out there has some engineering skills, I think it would be a gold mine if you designed a hidden storage comparment. Or, even a type of lock-box that some guys put in Jeeps. Of course, it would have to satisfy aesthetically, no diamond plate tool boxes in any Speedster I would drive.

Any thoughts?

mahalo,
Joel
The original Speedsters and my '79 IM have large pockets formed out of carpet that are located under the dash just forward of the door openings. These are great- roomy and not too obvious. I currently have the car stripped out and will need to replace the carpet. Hopefully, a carpet set w/ these pockets is still available.
