Okay, so you've been waiting a little longer than you'd hoped. And it seems even longer because the good weather is finally upon us.
Do yourself a favor and give it some time but make sure you keep on John regularly. Not every minute so you piss him off but enough so he knows you're there. Make sure he drives the hell out of them to shake the bugs out. In fact, if you can get Gerd or someone who lives close by to JPS to take your cars out to get some miles on them before there shipped, you'll be much better off. All my issues with my car were pretty much in the first thousand miles.
I was stupid and I picked up my car with 70 miles on it. It broke down 30 miles outside of LA on the trip home. It was in the shop several times to work out bugs. It was trailered back (by John)in the first year.
You guys live a lot further away so make sure your cars are good to go.
I would also recommend that you find a good mechanic in your area and introduce that mechanic to John. If you need warranty service it'll be important that your mechanic and John Steele have a working relationship.
Cover all your bases and don't rush it. You'll end up having a much better time with your new toy.
Just my two cents from my past experience. Take what you like and leave the rest.
Now, quit bitching! As far as I'm concerned, the only people with a legitimate right to bitch are the poor souls waiting for their SAWs. ;)
There is no chance John has forgotten about me. As to having a good few hundred miles on the car before he ships it off to the right coast, I do not yet have a good vision about that. John has said he shakes 'em all out before delivery, but the details of that are unknown to me. Cory says he knows a good shop over in Annapolis, and we are going to try to get over there this week sometime, and I can introduce myself, at least. What this guy might know (or care to know) about John Steele is still TBD. Appreciate the good advice here, and I am being patient about all of this, realizing that these extra few weeks being endured w/ great angst just now, will be a dim memory a year from now. But it ain't easy. You can't imagine how many "virtual" trips (i.e., daydreams) I have taken in my new Speedster so far . . .
Kelly, right on. I'd encourage you to daydream now, not when it gets here. For the rest of you, here's how my last conversation's going to play out:

Vrooooom, shift-click-vroom-click-vrooooooooom

"Say, Cory, How are you doing over there?"
"Uh, I need new pants. For two reasons."
"HAHAHAhaha ha haha ha."
"That's not very doggone funny."

Vrooooom, shift-click-vroom-click-vroooooooooooom

"Hey, Kelly, how about you go back to that day-dream thing you were doing for all those months and not try to get us killed with that foot of yours?"
What? Sleep? Right now?"
"No, please God NO! You're DRIVING!"

Vrooooom, shift-click-vroom-click-vroooo000000ooooom

"We're going to die!"
"HAHAHAhaha ha haha ha. Payback's a bitch!"
Excuse me while I repeat myself and sound like my buddy Gerd. MAKE SURE YOUR CAR HAS AS MANY MILES ON IT AS POSSIBLE TO SHAKE OUT AS MANY BUGS AS POSSIBLE. Or, be advised that you will be dealing with some issues long distance.
Gerd, can't you help a brother out and test drive his car? Wait, on second thought, maybe it's better you don't. Kelly doesn't want a nick in his fresh paint. ;)
Wednesday, if I'm not working overtime, you're on.
BTW, I'd say Terry's right on. I had most of my problems in the first 1,000 miles, too. I think we all do -- no matter who builds the car. If GERD can put some local miles on it for you, it might be a good idea. He can't break anything the builder can't fix, right?
I'll call you Tuesday regardless.
gerd:

Wonderful offer, and it has a lot of appeal, but not too sure how it all gets done. You buyin' the airplane ticket? Then I get to ride across the big ol' USA for week to get home?? There is a lot to like about that grand plan, but it just ain't gonna fit in my schedule, I don't think. Reminds me of my "sabatical", taken back in '68 between college and my working career (you remember the late '60s, don't you -- LOL -- ) wherein I ran my old '56 A Coupe out to CA and back again for about six weeks on the road. It was a great trip. Much to tell about that, at another time, however.

Meanwhile:

JPS thinks that my painted shell really, REALLY will be delivered to him tomorrow. John confesses that he has NEVER had this much trouble w/ the paint process. [So what am I? Just lucky, I guess.]Old paint shop lost their painter, and the first body they did for JPS afterwards (not mine) was crap-ola. Not sure how that got resolved, but my bare shell just sat and sat while John chased after the departed painter, located him at another shop, and has resumed business. This has taken months to sort out, so obvioulsy, I have not been given all the details. John says he will send a picture when the painted shell arrives. Have heard that so often, I've stopped listening. When I see it, then it will be so. John swears all other parts are sitting ready to go, and he will work full time putting it all together. Meanwhile, how about the Green Coupe, Tom? That one all done yet??
