Hi madness

This morning while I was driving I took a pothole before a left turn, the door opened (pothole) and in the left turn the door hinge broke.

I stop immediately to close the door and I saw the broken door hinge :sad

The upper door hinge is in good condition so I managed to close the door (top hinge and door latch) and at home I lace the door to prevent bigger damages.

I need quicky a new door hinge, I presume it was vw but I have seen it´s specific to our Speedsters.

Where can I buy a new ones (I´ll buy 4)?

Any other car brand, model use our door hinges??

Thanks in advance.

Welding cast iron is difficult (because of the casting grain) but not impossible and might be easier than finding a replacement hinge.

Ask around at your local garages or auto part stores for some really good local welders and then ask the welders if they can weld cast iron.  It usually takes a stick welder (Not a MIG or TIG) and a special 7018 welding rod, but some welders can really do miracles so it's worth a shot.

Broken cast iron parts are pretty common, because the cast part is brittle in the first place.  That makes them break along a stress line.  The good news is that they often break or crack cleanly, making them easier to groove out at the crack and weld back together.

Good luck!

I´ll try to weld it first (the crack is clean) I know a master welder in my city.

Thanks

I´ll show you the result
