Got on the road for Vancouver this morning and after a mere 70 miles of driving I got treated to the sound of a front wheel bearing failing and subsequently being ground to little bitty pieces. No warning noise no resistance or pulling from that wheel just sudden failure and lots of grinding after. Got AAA to take me home and this is what I got. Looks like the inner race is now permanently bonded to the spindle. I have no idea what or if I did something wrong when I installed them 4k miles ago but looks like I

More power to you!!! Massachusetts to Vancouver BC is a very long haul, maybe 2,800 to 3,000 miles.

You said no ware yet you meant to say "no where" But the reality is you did have abnormal ware.

You many have over tightened the bearing upon installation and or not tightened them enough. I've seen this kind of a problem stemming from both scenario's.

Another possibility is that they didn't have a suffiecent amount of grease between the bearing and the cage.

The other option is you did everything absolutely correct and because it's mechanical, it's subject to breaking.
Too bad Peter. At least you weren't halfway across the country when it went! Get a new/used spindle and some bearings tomorrow, then go anyway!

I called Autozone today on a lark and they had rear wheel cylinders IN stock, couldn't believe it, and at $11 each. Yes they're on the car and I went for a nice sunset drive tonight, 80 and not much humidity, nice!
