Regards the hydraulic lifters, I have had two engines with them. I like the "set and forget" valve adjustments for certain. Also, the engines lose the Singer sewing machine lifter noise, and that makes for a nicer sounding more quite engine....and Larry and Alan are very correct in that you need clean oil, you need to run a full flow oil filter system, and I have found that a higher capacity oil pump to work "better" also. There are certainly less cams available as stock items, the engines I have had were neither one "performance" engines, one was a 2109, the other was a 2275cc....but both were intended for fun street driving. All out performance? Stay away. Better street driving experience? I would certainly consider a hydraulic lifter engine again... my current engine has solid ceramic lifters.....
