I was watching this one. Super auction. Well done. Great color car, nearly new VS in all ways. I watched the bids go up too. $12,000 - $15,000 - $15998 - $16,000 - Then finally $18,000 and the auction was then canceled. Normally that means that the buyer & seller struck up a deal off line. I think that at $18,000 it was a real buy and assume it went for stronger than that.

This is the way an auction should look though.

Very nice car, but IMHO, more than a bit verbose in the ad copy and $18,000 is not "a real buy." There is no shortage of nice Vintage Speedsters out there in that price range.

It is possible that there was a deal struck off line and the ad cancelled. However, I think it's even more probable that some of the final bids were shill bids, by the seller, in an attempt to drive up the bids of real bidders. If the last shill bid isn't out-bid by a real bidder, the auction is cancelled just prior to it's end.

By the way. Who's car was that? I've seen that personalized plate before.

It is a beauty.

But - Disagreeing. I think that if that car was ordered new today, with that option list, the buyer would have thousands more in added costs for the exact same vehicle, sans 2000 miles. The interior, the paint, the engine, etc, etc all make this car a real buy at $18k. It is essentially new.

Agreeing. I have seen run of the mill speedster replicas go for less, but not "as-new" - as this one clearly is. $18k? You cant get a good 2000 mile pedestrian sedan for that = real buy!
Not an excessive price if it sold for $18k and the buyer planned on keeping it in their stable for some time to come, however in the current market the $18k would be at the very high end of the curve. Needs to have P' wheel caps, dash script etc. Oh, the seller needed to know that in the photo depicting the side curtains, he had them installed .........backwards :~) ~Alan
It could be that there was some kind of Ebay policy violation and the Ebay police cancelled the listing. Ebay kinda sucks in that regard because they don't police all the listings! Some replicas stay under "356." That happened to to me mid auction with really no recourse for the previous bidders to continue. I inadvetently listed under "356" as opposerd to "Replica/kit makes." Who knew, for all intents and purposes, it is a "356."
