When I bought my Intermeccanica I gave the money changers $100 U.S. and was given $150 CDN back. A year ago, January 2004 I received about $120 CDN back for my $100 US. Of course the cost of the Intermeccanica is going to go up.

But Shame on you guys for turning this into another Political Bashing on this thread. Take it to the "anything goes" section or onto some political blog. It is not needed here. Gee Wiz.
When I was a kid $1 CDN was about 1.05 US. When our dollar was higher. Now it's the other way around. The CDN dollar is hovering around 83 cents US. Over the last 5 years it has gone as low as 68 cents. Boy those were the days for Canadian manufacturing. I was making about 100K a month on foreign exchange since we sold in USD. But now the weakening of the USD in relation to the strenthening of the Euro has bolstered the CDN dollar.

The Canadian government would be excited if it stayed around 75 cents USD. We have become a manufacturing and export economy. So in a nutshell the difference between the USD and CDN dollar is that the USD has shrunk over 40% in the last 18 months. The costs of steel alone have risen more than that. If the price adjustment was only 9% for the Mercedes of Speedster you got off lucky.

Now that sounds like an accountant talking doesn't it. Hang on..............tshhhhisshhh.......glooo-gloooo-glooooo........slirp.....ahhhhh now that I have a beer in me. SUPPORT YOUR CAR SHOW, ATTEND KNOTTS AND CARLISLE

Oh, I am the one that is guilty as charged. I baited that post.. a very stupid thing to do. I know that politics have zero place on this forum and I apologize. Vince just reacted to my crud, that's all. I don't blame him at all.

As far as price. I think HR does work with customers to squeeze as much into the deal as he can. There is more flexibility in having a wide range of options. When was the last time Kirk or John cut a special discount? I think everyone pays the price there too. I feel damn good about the price I paid. I Paid the price of a base IM in my VS (at 03 prices) once I chunked that mexi-crap-crate soft anchor that came in it and upgraded brakes and the gas tank and finally got it at the level I should have ordered in the first place. (I blame myself.. I was a rookie.)

Anyway, it's a stupid thread... go price a new SUV and compare it to the prices over the years. I think the trend is common to a lot of things..., including 912s, 911s, and 356s.. unfortunately that upward trend includes gasoline prices.

No Voting Record.
There is a steel shortage out there. I know with my work stuff it has increased a lot more than just 7-9%. The mining companies have agreed to a 71% price hike this year on iron ore. At first it was just the large items that use a lot of metal, now it's filtered down to smaller components too. Couple this with the weaker dollar, I don't think Intermeccanica's price increase is unreasonable.
But, as any hot-rodder/race-car builder/show-car owner will tell you, "If you wanna' play, you gotta' pay".

The law of supply and demand combined with a worsening exchange rate to bring about a hefty price increase at Intermeccanica this year. Henry seems to be at no loss for work, so one wonders- why in the world would he not raise his price? I doubt if anybody here would not give themselves a raise to be worked a bit less, and make the same amount of money- or work the same amount, and make a little more. The only other alternative would be for him to not work at all, and that would be a loss to the replica community as a whole.

The price increase was substantial. It makes the prices everyone thought outrageous several years ago seem pretty reasonable- kind of like the '63 split window 'vette I could have bought in 1980 for $5K (If I'd only had $5K back then..) looks pretty good in light of what a split window commands now.

You want the '63 split of the replica world, available right now? Check the Mike Wiggens ad in the "Classified" section. $50K will look pretty cheap in a couple of years for that car. Now, if I only had $50K....
