There have been a bunch of Flared versions for sale on here (and on ebay), but it might be a bit of a dread to get them "legal" in the UK.

Go to the registry or the photo section of this site and find the email address for Simon Hambley in the UK. He can tell you anything you'll need to know, although he drives a UK Chesil.

Well Paul I'm almost there with a 356 Cabriolet. I'm having one built by SAS with a Subaru 2.5 engine. There's a few here in SOC and there's a link to it's site.I'm afraid SAS is on the dear side coming in behind Intermeccanica for prices. Mine will look like the Silver/Blue flared one. With the money exchange rate you should be able to get a good deal on a car even with shipping and VAT. Can't vouch for MOT for anyone other than SAS because he builds his with all emmission controls installed. Another thought is that our cars like European cars are all left-hand drive. A thought might be for you to find a builder and have a flared kit sent to you to be built using a RHD VW parts car. Check around, there must be builders there in the UK since I seen some of the Kit Car magazines from there. I think JPS or Vintage would assemble a kit and ship it. Good Hunting...

Hi Paul

I have a flared speedster here in the UK.

I bought the kit from Pilgrim. Had a couple of teething problems with the build (Mainly the arches were in the wrong place!) but I was quite impressed with Pilgrims support throughout my build.

Other than the body and the frame I sourced most of the bits from the dreaded Ebay, total build costs came in at under 9K

I really enjoyed building it and love driving it even more!!!!

regards

Steve

Back to part of the original question. The guy who bought my replicar paid to have it shipped and the fees included making the car compliant with rules in the UK, like our DOT-stuff.

You might look at that aspect on your end so you don't do as one of those computer geeks did some time back with his illegal 959s, which sat in a storage container for forever...
