I had a call today from Chuck Martin's son Ryan. Sadly, Chuck passed in his sleep last night at his home in Palmyra Pennsylvania. Over the years Chuck had traveled a winding health road but always bounced back with a smile as that was the way Chuck Martin rolled. Chuck proudly served our nation retiring with the notable rank of Brigadier General after many years in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He also had worked with the FAA and held FAA Instructor Licenses in both Fixed Wing and Rotary Aircraft, he was a hell of a Pilot.  I met Chuck and his lovely wife Maggie many years ago when he purchased a Vintage Speedster from me and that day was the beginning of a friendship with Chuck, his wife, Connie and myself . As you know, Chuck was an avid car guy always driving unique rides,  a few speedsters and a coupe. He had a robust love for... our America.  There will be a Memorial Service at a later date. Brigadier General Chuck Martin, a loving husband, father, grandfather, a good friend, a gentleman and ….a gentle man.

OMG! Horrible news.  The classiest man in the SOC and it was a huge treat to see Chuck and Maggie at SOC events.  This man rose rtothe rank of General in the army and knew Porsche cars and all about airplanes.  So accomplished. They always sat with our group at the SOC banquets every year.  I am shattered by this news.  Friends, we just never know. Chuck checked into the SOC site just last evening--Surely Chuck didn't know last night that he would be leaving us  We just lost Dusty now Chuck.  They give no warning but just drop away, usually to our great surprise. This is yet another hole in my heart. Know for certain that every day is a gift from God .  Every morning that my feet hit the floor I say out loud, "Thank you Lord for another day.  I am so sad about this news.  Just Damn.

BG Chuck Martin passed away peacefully on June 24, 2020 at his home in Palmyra, PA. Chuck served with distinction for over thirty-two years in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as a helicopter pilot, rising in rank from private to his retired rank of Brigadier General. Over his career, he was awarded the Master Army Aviation badge, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, The Pennsylvania Outstanding Aeronautical Achievement Award presented by former Governor Thomas Ridge and was twice awarded flight instructor of the year by the Federal Aviation Administration. Chuck was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and of the U.S. Army War College. Among his proudest accomplishments were teaching his son, Ryan, and daughter, Amber, to fly.

Upon retiring from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Chuck served with the Federal Aviation Administration as the Principal Operations Inspector for Allegheny Airlines for eleven years, and finally four years with Haverfield Aviation of Gettysburg, PA.

Concurrently with his military career, and retirement from the FAA, Chuck was appointed by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Designated Pilot Examiner and administered over fifteen hundred pilot certifications in airplanes, helicopters, and seaplanes.

In addition to Chuck’s love of airplanes, helicopters, and seaplanes, he was also an avid vintage car enthusiast, enjoying driving his antique Porsche’s, modern Jaguars, and other sports cars with his wife, Maggie, friends, and fellow enthusiasts.

Wow

Chuck was such a friendly kind guy - I always loved to talk to him and always had such a gentle spirit. I will miss seeing his face and smile at future car events.

Thanks for the post about his life Alan - he had a fantastic full life - sorry it was shorter than expected.

My prayers go out to Maggie and family.
