Well my Mini sold last week, so as promised my Intermeccanica is up for sale next.  I'm listing it here first before putting it on eBay.  (UPDATE Ebay Item http://www.ebay.com/itm/331286435303)

I don't know what the previous exhaust was. It wasn't what had come with the car originally, was way to low out the back and someone had taken off the heater boxes. It has new heater boxes now.

PS- Great looking car, btw.

Canadian import from USA rules are simple. The replica vehicle must have been constructed more than 15 years previous. It must have clean title/registration etc. and you'll need to prove it. Along with this paperwork, you'll need to send a bill of sale to the US border crossing people 72 hours previous to you showing up with the vehicle to cross. The numbers on the vehicle registration plate affixed to the car must match those on the paperwork to get clearance from the US side. They will give an export permit when satisfied and then you cross the bridge, explain what you are doing to those dumbfounded idiots with their hands on the cash register. They want your money (tax money) and have the ability to impound the car if the dork (dorkess ?) handling your import thinks the car is worth more that you ( and your sales receipt ) says it is worth. You'd be well advised to show some evidence that your receipt for the sale reflects some credibility against other examples. Year, condition, motor and running gear installed. Be prepared to show some comparisons.

For example, we bought our Speedster in Boise, Idaho for $6,500 and drove it over to Syracuse, NY and headed North to home in Canada with a bone stock 1600 cc engine. We did have to stop in Spanish Fork, UTah for four new tires and a tie rod end for about $800.

Upon crossing into Canada the young and zealous agent seemed skeptical about the value I had on the car. I showed him around the car, noting that the carpet inside was a bit ragged in areas, only a stock VW engine etc. and explained that I had to do some repairs...including the tires etc. in Spanish Fork and he JUMPED on that. Straight inside we went for investigation. He (along with a superior agent) found me guilty of attempt to import undeclared goods and charged me 25% tax on the value of the tires and repair and cautioned me that my name would be red flagged for any future attempts for 10 years.

We travel to the US frequently and we are prepared for the border crossing and most every time the crossing is straight forward and without problem.

Going into Canada the situation is sporadic. It seems to range from courteous to dumbfounded nonsense. We came back from Lakeland Florida after Sun n Fun with an overload of beer a few years ago. We did a BBQ ourselves for up to 85 friends in those days down there. I admitted to the Canuck side that and had we had a couple of cases of excess the limit of beer, a couple of bottles of extra wine etc. and pulled over we were, examined all but internally and held up for about a half hour, only 45 minutes from home. The crazy part is, I had picked up about $800 worth of 4130 steel tubing in PA for an airplane project which was laying in full view along the center of the travel trailer and we could hear the two Bytchs going thru our stuff and tripping over it. I forgot to declare the tubing. They charged us about $30 in tax for excess import of alcohol and sent us on our way.

Any legit 15 year old replica can be exported from the US into Canada. Just have your stuff in order.

Sorry for the length....

That sounds a lot like my travels through Central America in the late '60's, through all of those then/now "Third World Countries" (Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and on as far as Ecuador).

We got stopped and searched for almost seven hours when driving into El Salvador from Honduras because we had medical supplies that clearly stated "UNICEF" and "USA Peace Corps" all over them.  Well, ok, so we also forgot our US passports back at the clinic, but, HELL!  We had American driver's licenses and we looked well under 21 and were driving a pickup with Texas plates!

So when the hell did Canada become a "Third World Country"?
