I mean, I don't find a roadster replica specific forum type site, even after several search configuration attempts to do so. So can I play in this sandbox too??

I've got an Intermeccanica car on it's way to me. it'll be my first "kit car" type car, and it's meant to be solely for my own enjoyment and no day-to-day transportation duties will be required of it.

A 2001 issue bought used with less than 4800 miles on the clock. Apparently the original buyer(s) found that by the time their car arrived a firstborn was about to arrive, and since then three more followed allowing them little time to enjoy the car in the way they had envisioned.

I'm expecting to love the car, and I'm expecting to have a learning curve attached with it, but it's not a Speedster and this seems to be the only related owner's site - unless I've been really obtuse in my attempts to find a place for roadster owners.

I just hate to be where I'm not welcome....

"get lost.....I mean in your new IM of course..."

Heh, one of the first things my wife said about the car was "Maybe you should look into a better navigator than that Tom-Tom you bought on sale".

We've checked the Tom-tom out around here and it's got a serious tendency to be confused, sending us in circles. Their mapping isn't all that complete when it comes to the back roads of SW Washington.

I'm thinking maps (the paper kind) and maybe the first mod being an upgrade from the 10 gal. tank.
Ken:

We got a TomTom 720 a few years back and we love it. I find it to be quite a bit more accurate, at least in the areas we travel in (New England and Southeast USA), than my son's Garmin or my neighbor's Magellan (in Beaufort). We just upgraded the map for the first time in three years - Lord knows what THAT's gonna do, but so far it's been good.

Regardless, part of the fun of owning a Speedster is getting out there for a drive and getting lost - especially if it takes a lot longer to get back home!

Roadsters are the most desired cars on this site. I used to think that they were for "girls" but after I got mine, I realized that they are incredibly manly.

There is a big event in Osoyoos in a week + that you might be interested in. My wife and I drive our IM to BC every year to participate in the IM BBQ. Give Intermeccanica a call and talk to Robert.

Marty,
Bobbi and I are flying into Seattle/Tacoma on Thursday the 22nd. My Oncologist doesn't want me driving that far in Ruby. Although the car is up to the challenge,I guess he feels that the old guy isn't!! 3000 mile plus trip one way! Leaving the 22nd,returning on the 26th. Still time to make your reservations!!
You don't have to drive to be there. The silver bird is a viable alternative. What say you, my friend? See you there? Can't wait to see Dale and Michele Bates, and the rest of my IM cronies.
Now the car will be delivered Saturday instead of Friday. The driver lives in southern Oregon so I don't begrudge him a visit with his family but I'll admit to feeling a little disapointed. I guess my head was wrapped into seeing the car tomorrow.

I sent an email up to Intermeccanica so they could update their owner files. In return I got a welcome to the family, a nice thank you from Henry (with a subtle pitch about being ready when I am to order a new car) and a subscription to the Intermeccanica newsletter. All nice unexpected stuff thaat works to convince me that this was a good choice.

Dale you were right in the first place, roadsters are for girls....
next thing you know, you'll be buying a Miata....

Vince, I'd only buy a Miata if I couldn't find the perfect VW Rabbit Cabriolet!

I got the roadster for my girl. She loves the taller windshield, heated seats and the air-conditioning. I like the bee hives because they remind me of ...never mind.
Dang it, this waiting sucks!

I just called the delivery driver because the selling dealer had sent the package of paperwork to the address of my bank branch (I guess their ditzy clerk took it from the cashier's check and mixed it with my actual address). So I called the driver thinking he must be close and might go downtown to the bank. Good call because he did have the bank address as mine and I'm nine miles out of town and up in the hills.

The driver is talkative and asked about the Intermeccanica brand because he'd never seen one before and was very impressed with how much nicer it was than the other replicas he often carries (names left out to avoid controversy).

Anyway, at the end of the long call I asked him if he is close. He told me no, he is at his home some 200 miles south, and expected to be here at around 3:00 pm TOMORROW!?. Mentioned that a wheel bearing on his carry trailer had begun to smoke so I understand and wouldn't want the car dropped on I5 because of an axle collapse but we'd expected him today and have been on pins and needles around here since before dawn.

grrrrrr,rr,rrr. Back to patience mode.

I did add three of the pictures that I'd been sent so you all could see what this one is about.
That driver mentioned a famous maker of Speedsters that doesn't make roadsters. I think that someone who didn't know any better might think that a speedster was not as well built only because of the more spartan nature of the seats and side windows.

Besides, he lives in the town that thought a good way to dispose of a 45 foot beached Sperm whale was to blow it up with Dynamite. The resulting blubber fling has kept that town a worldwide laughingstock for over 40 years now, so what cOULD the guy know about replica Porsches?

(one of the most hilarious things I ever saw)
Right, I recognized Carmel in that photo. I used to live in Santa Cruz and still own my house there.

All I've got so far are a short series of iPhone pictures that were part of an ebay auction.

As to the engine in it - I'm not sure yet. The auction listing said 140hp but in an email the seller (friend of owner) mentioned 100 hp. I've sent a request to Henry for a copy of the build or order sheet if they have that kind of stuff retained. What I've received is only the Intermeccanica owner's manual, the Certificate of Origin, and the California title docs.

Some of the option choices are visible, and that seller said it has seat heaters. But I don't know which engine or brakes are in the car yet. Whatever, I'm sure it'll be a great car and it's only got 4725 miles on it. Even the driver said it smells and drives like a new car from his 200 ft or so to turn it around and put it on his trailer.

Anybody know if Intermeccanica attaches their proprietary badging with glue or pins/holes? Not too sure about being a rolling billboard and having to answer "What's an Innermeckania" all the time. It's on the dash and that's OK, but it's also on the rear above the license plate. I'd just as soon that was clean , saying nothing.

So my car is where they blew up a whale and covered the spectators with blubber - Dale.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79tl2H3QzT0
