Is there any 550 Spyder kits street legal in Canada

Hi I am new to this site but a long time fan of the 550 spyder (not just because of James Dean, but because the car is the most beautiful thing ever crafted.)

Anyways, I have loved the car all my life and now I wish to get one unfortunately I was informed by a close friend that the 550 Spyder kits are not street legal in Canada...

If anyone knows any info on this as to wheather this is true I would really appreciate any info that I might be able to get.

Nicholas, as far as I know 550 kits (or any kit) are not importable into Canada unless they are 15 years or older.

Things may be different in Ontario but I had no problems getting my Beck insured and registered here in Alberta even though it came from Manitoba. No emissions testing or anything like that. I think Dario has brought them into Canada before but I think that he had a lot of trouble at the border.
A friend of mine owns an autobody shop and he said a customer of his spent well over $20K and 6 months trying to get a Cobra replica across the border.

I have been checking around and it seems as though you cant import them anymore period. Which for me is really a kick in the pants. Anyways, I have been looking at some used ones for sale in my area and also have been seeing if I might be able to ship the parts in a build one, but as of yet I have had no luck finding a "parts 550 dealer."

Anyways, I am not really in the market for at least 10 months so I figure I have plenty of time to figure out what I am going to do. If any one has any Ideas or know anyone in Canada who has built one, drop me an response.

Nicolas check with Dario (Dman550 on spyderclub.com) he is in Vancouver and deals with spyders all the time. In my opinion you should look at buying a car that is already here. Heiko is in Ontario somewhere, Ottawa, I think. Last I heard he wanted $27K.

I am not in the market for one for about 8 months or until next spring. I am right now just doing my Homework... I like to do alot of research before I make a choice.

I have a black Perry Spyder titled as a 69 VW. As far as I know, it should be importable into Canada without problem. Let me know if you want pics. $12,500.
