First, let me thank all of the folks who responded to my initial posting. Everything was very informative and I'm meeting with John Steele this morning to get a first-hand look. I don't intend to order until after the first of the year, so have a little more time. In that case, here's what: JPS's Custom Package is just about everything I could want as far as options. I'm not buying the car with the intent of pushing it through mountain passes, or speeding along at 100+. Do I really need the 2110cc engine that comes with the package? What advantages/disadvantages are there in the bigger engine. If I stay with that engine, does anyone have suggestions as to suspension options, tranny, etc. I've also heard of oil cooling problems on the larger engines.

Thanks again for the info already given

Talk with the car builder. Explain your driving style & estimated miles per year, etc. Ask him what he thinks. Ditto with suggested suspension upgrades and other details. John won't try to up-sell you so if you ask for advice I am certain he will offer it.

The engine size and type is a touchy subject for some of us; surfice it to say a stock 1600 may leave you wishing you had more get up and go, but for certain people it is dandy. For most of us 100 to 130 HP would be ideal, while others would like to close in on 200 HP. If possible see if you can drive or go for a ride with owners that have different engine packages. Certainly in SoCal which is where you must live there are many who post here who can help you out.
Angelo,
I run a CB Performance 2110 with modified exhaust and have no regrets. I had Kirk at VS install an oil cooler and fan and have had no heating issues. I currently live on Kauai, and the car does not run hot. I have lurked/participated on this web site for about 3-4 years, and in that time, I have never heard of any owner going smaller with a replacement engine, but many have gone larger. If it is possible, follow the prior lister's suggestion, and try a ride in cars with different size engines. It may be worth a drive or a plane ticket to get the feel for what floats your boat. Regards, Jim
