Hi All:

I'm a new member that just picked up this 1986 Intermecanicca Roadster D from a nice gentleman in MA. Car drives amazing, it really surprised me how well it handles (mind you, i jumped from the seat of my 66 Split Window Bus into the Roadster, so most cars feel amazing). Not really a lot that i'd like to change, as far as car goes, other than seats, steering wheel, and ditch the Alpine stereo.  Engine is a 1776 that has a lot of upgrades and drives really strong. If you know the car and the history and let me know. Also, the car has a Gene Berg short shifter, feels amazing, anyone know if you can change the T-shift knob to something else? I feel like im driving a Mopar.

Thanks

Silvano

Not sure if you can change the knob on a Berg, although I know they now make a round knob shifter.  You could also replace it with a CSP for a similar feel but more traditional looks.  Either way is a bit pricey.  There may be less expensive alternatives that look more appropriate. such as a Vintage Speed, but I am not sure how they feel.

x2 on removal of the plastic filter.  That's a serious fire hazard as are the fancy glass ones.  Go with metal.

Thanks Lane and Mike:

The seats are 914, (they are very comfortable) and the pan looks VW to me, although i thought 1986 was year that went to IM (read this in the brochures that came with the car)? I will take my time hunting seats - would like something low-back that folds forward. There are some on the Samba but big bucks. I might try a set of type III's and see how they fit (friend has an extra set out of his Notch).

I will most likely take the Gene Berg apart and see if i can figure something out - really is a sweet setup, just ugly. Thanks for the tips!

How did you get around the reverse lockout button?

Nice looking car, Sylvano, and welcome. Call Gene Berg Ent. and they'll tell you what you need. Is your Roadster irs or swingaxle? Al

Holy smokes Mitch, that exactly what i want.

Thanks!

And for just a few pennies more they'll do one with your graphics, which is probably how this one came to be:

David the car was on Craigslist - Boston, MA. The gentleman that i purchased it from was fantastic and really did a nice job of maintaining the vehicle. For the money, it's hard to beat this car in regard to fun factor. I'm ready for a road trip.

I've heard from several people looking for older IM's.

How and where did you find this one ? Thanks...
