George, I have a 79 vert and have been keeping an eye on prices for a while. It seems that over the last few years there is 3 price ranges. The top is $10,000-$20,000 for all original, very low mile, perfect to almost perfect cars, with most selling at the lower end of that range. The top price cars are pristine, never used, garaged, and pampered collectible examples. Then the well maintained, well preserved or competently restored cars. These have good tops, rust free bodies, rebuilt engines, clutch etc. and nice paint/interior, with out the originality changed by "custom" interiors, paint, wheels etc. These bring $5,000-$10,000 depending on how new and well installed the top is, how new and original the car looks and if it is a beautiful day when the Dr. comes to buy his daughter her dream car. Then there is the $3000 car that has some rust, a beat top, custom velour interior, and a 6 month career on Craigslist until a nice day and a 18 year old pays $2500 and learns about how much harder it is to install a top on a VW convertible than he thought it was. My car is 44th from the last one made, Black Epiloge Edition, nice repaint, and was a gift to my wife for her Birthday. I got a few points for that one.

George, your miles are low enough to put you in the $10,000 plus group, but having a paint job actually is a negative, because with the low mileage collectors want original paint too. What color is the car and why was it painted? Marketing your car on The Samba is a good way to go. It gets lots of looks from real VW folks and plenty of European lookers. The price is right too.. free! I have sold a few cars and some parts there and things went quickly, for oddball cars and parts. It is a great VW site.
Will,

The car sat in a barn under several tarps, top rotted, general crap. then it was driven for about 5 ytears, then parked in barn again. I saw it there and inquired, but they declined. I then saw it at the mechanic's wherenit was outside with the rotted top. it sat for months and some surface rust occured. I stripped it repaired the floors and had it painted. The rest is history. I need hood (front) springs,

Thanks,

GG
