Tom,

Thanks for thinkin' of me, dude. I put a couple of posts up tonight -- even mentioned you by name. Been traveling (work and fun) a bunch lately, and have been off the radar. Hat details posted up under the Events-Hats thread. You're in, along w/ a couple of others, and I'll have the $$ talleyed and an invoice sent to you directly. Anyone else, need to have your hat size, as the lids are fitted, not adjustable. Have been in touch w/ John, and he is being a little short on details. We are about a month past-due at this point. At Carlisle he went on some about trouble w/ his painter. He deals w/ a body shop, and the guy who does the spraying there left, as they are wont to do, and so I am thinking this is the delay. I think the paint did not come out so hot the first time through, and John is having to beat these guys to get it right. I trust that will be the case: it will be done right. My car was "due out of paint" a couple of weeks before Carlisle at one point, but now John says he will have it next Monday -??!- I am due to call John tonight to see what is really going on. Engine done, chassis done, seats done, so maybe it will not be too long now. Sure hope so. I am thinking one of the finest driving seasons we Marylanders could expect is just about to be over, w/ really hot weather just around the corner. So I am bummed to have missed all this nice dry spring weather we have had. But when it does get here you (all) will be the first to know. Then I'll be ready to hook up, whatever the weather. For now, just counting the days . . .
Kelly,
John's business is growing while his shop space is shrinking. John's painter used to share the building with him and now the bodies have to be transported to the paint shop. He no longer has his outside space either.
I'm sure he wants to get it done as much as you do.
Think positively. At least you're not waiting for a SAW. ;>)

I have now heard more from John about his painter problems. Looking on the bright side, I still believe that John will not accept second best, and that when he can get the output the way he wants it, it will be done, and not before. I'm just hunkering down -- as if there was any other choice at this point. I'd rather be out on the twisties in a Speesdter, or drag racing Cory and the Hoopty, but I just gotta sit and wait . . .
OK folks, today has been a big day. First off, it is my most favorite day of the year right off the bat, seeing as how I live in the northern hemisphere of this great, blue planet, and also praise the sun. So happy solstice to all!! And add to that, these pictures just in from JPS: the body has arrived!! Believe all parts needed to assemble are on hand, so if we can just get that stupid green coupe out of the way, we can get on to the good stuff. ;) Tom: just kidding, MGM. I am loving your car, the pix seen and the progress being made. We are GOING to have that East Coast Jamboree, thee and me, and whoever else wants to come. And we're going to do it soon. So there it is folks. Something to write home about -- or at least to tell all the demented souls on the SOC Forum.

PS: Also took some wheel time today on the Hoopty, blasting down the interstate checking out the next major face-lift projekt for that bad boy. Want details?: gotta go see Cory for those.

To all,

Txs for the kind words. Believe when the car arrives there will be two things uncontrollable: the grin, and my whereabouts. I am thinking I will not be sitting home much.

There is an issue about colors, BTW. John wants to know about the canvas: top and tonneau. Says the Tan will be light vs. the Cork interior. I had thought a dark red would work. I have seen cars similar w/ the tan canvas, and they look nice enough. Have yet to see the dark red on a car, although I have seen samples at the Porsche dealer. It's pretty dark, and definitely red. What do you all think?? I'm leaning toward the dark red.
There is a box?? I thought these things were tubs. Anyway, getting my "nutrition" via grainy .jpgs and a very vivid imagination is really not gettin' the job done. I am SO tired of waiting. And so ready to be cruisin'. John Steele says he's working on my car steady everyday, but he also let slip that he had about ten builds in various stages about a week ago, so who knows. I am hoping that Tom and I are in a race to get done, and will come in tied. And that the others at JPS are running a distant second. I'll keep fwding the pix as they come in.
C'mon Kelly, don't BS us . . . . You're hopin' for somthing that would delay all those other builds . . . so John would put 100% of his efforts into the Frazereplica Speedy . . . so she arrives as fast as John could possibly complete her and ship her Fedex overnight at no extra cost to you.
C'mon, you know it's true. Admit it to us all.

Deep down anyone waiting for a car would feel the same way whether they admit it or not. The waiting is excruciating!
Tom,

You are SO right. There is no honor among thieves nor sympathy among those who wait months for the car of their dreams. Just trying to (look like, not actually) be a gentleman.

Allan: John says he has never done the dark red canvas (must be a new thing at his supplier -?-) and so does not have any material hanging around. I have visited the Porsche dealership nearby, and have seen a good sample of this canvas. I think it will work fine. Between the car, the accent vinyl, and the canvas there will be three shades of red to work w/ the Cork interior trim and tan, synthetic squareweave. I am hoping they will work together OK, and think it will be fine. I did get a sample of the dark red vinyl and there is a Boxster where I work painted this color, and so I laid that sample on that car. It looked good to me. The Boxster has tan interior and top, BTW. I have told John to go w/ the dark red canvas, so we will see the pics soon enough. Speaking of pics:

Tom,

I don't know about relative progress, and who is going to finish first, but I do have to agree w/ you about the color. I see these pictures, and I just can't believe it. Harking back to something MUSBJIM said: maybe I can go to Kinkos, or some such, w/ one of these photos, get it blown up to real size, paste it to some cardboard, and put that in the garage. Then maybe the space won't look so empty, and I can sit and stare at that . . .

PS: John has said nothing to me about any joint shipment of the two cars, and if that would save any money. I have asked him via e-mail about this three different times. I'll have to call him and force the question.
Just to keep this fresh, it would appear that I am still tagging along just a bit behind the Green Coupe. John thought my engine would be in today or tomorrow. Could be the whole thing will be ready to roll next week. Can this REALLY be??! Looks like I may be driving over to Tom's to pick my car up -- and get a real good look at his Coupe. We are thinkng of shipping together to save a little $$.
