Leaking IRS Transmission

I removed the R/H Axle for replacement and out poured a bunch of tranny oil. I cleaned up the flange and sure enough it it leaking from the center and driping on the flange. Is there an easy to change seal in there? I was thinking of replacing the trannny with a Freeway Flyer style. I am hoping for an engine upgrade somewhere down the line, who makes a good strong tranny that will last?

Sounds like you have a Swing Axle, NOT an IRS. If you remove the axle (unbolt the CV joints) on an IRS rear, nothing leaks.

It is IRS.... the flange on the tranny is leaking. Not sure what is going on.

If it's the drive flange, the part that the inner CV bolts up to, then remove the CV, there may be a plastic cap in the middle of the flange, remove the cap and then remove the E clip. Pull the flange and it will slide off the splined shaft. There is a rubber seal, much like a transaxle input shaft seal. It can be replaced.

Once the CV has been removed, it should take you 15-30 minutes to replace the seal.

Its Fixed!!!!! Poped the c-clip out, pulled the flange out and installed a new seal. C-clip back on and tapped in new plastic cap.. About 15 min and 8.00 worth of parts....
